Day 5 In Hong Kong

Today, we are heading to Shenzhen, China for a day trip. Father in law requested us to visit Shenzhen as he has never been there before but heard so much about it from relatives and friends. However, hub &  I wasn’t interested but went ahead to arrange a day tour after all.
Early this chilling morning, we went to take the rail at Hung Hum station and that brought us direct to Lo Hu (Shenzhen). It took us about 40 minutes ride on rail and it wasn’t that crowded as we expected.

When we arrived, the tour guide on the other end fetched us after immigration and we started our tour. Our first stop was to this silly ‘museum’ where they introduced Jade to us. There was a short introduction on how to find out good Jade quality and how Jade came about etc… thereafter, they led us to another room which is the jewellery counters where you can purchase those jades… man… we were not interested at all and we just hang around while some of our tour mates went to check out some jewels.

Our second stop was worst!! They brought us to this Chinese Herbal Hall where they introduced us Chinese medicines… in the first room, there was a ‘doctor’ who talked about some Chinese medicines and telling us how to tell if they are real… ‘My goodness… since when China has REAL things!’

After that, we were assigned to a doctor and we followed her to her room for consultation!! She told us that it is important to know of one’s well-being and how to treat if we are not well… Screw that! First up was my mother in law as she was seated at her consultation table. She checked out my mother in law and told her that she is suffering from osteoarthritis and asked her to buy medicines. When my mother in law refused and told her that she is currently taking medicines back home, she explained that western medicine are not as good as Chinese’s though it takes a long time. Having said that, she told us that it will take 3 months to heal if we take her prescription!! I immediately asked her if she can guarantee that and argued that she mentioned that Chinese medicines will take a longer time to take effect… she was like ‘………’

During our lunch, we discussed and came to a decision that we should end our day tour in Shenzhen. We spoke to the guide and told him that we want to end our tour and return to HKG. He kindly arranged the driver to send us back to the train station and we shopped at Lo Hu shopping mall for a short while. Hub & I were disgusted by those people who works at the mall as they were smoking indoor and some outside their shops.

While we walked by some shops, one sales staff yelled out to me asking me to check out her fantastic branded goods and asked me if I want to get ‘A’ quality from her as she has a lot of ‘A’ or even ‘A*’ quality bags! I was obviously irritated and told her saying that I am not interested in ‘A’ quality bags but REAL bags!!! She shut her mouth immediately!

Once arrived back to Hong Kong, we felt so happy and went back to hotel for a short rest. Hub & I went out to get some snacks as we were afraid that the elderly might be hungry as it will be a couple of hours before heading out for dinner.

It was quite a tiring day though we did not travel much except for the terrible trip to China. We went to have steamboat dinner at the nearby Cheers Restaurant. We simply love having steamboat in HKG as everything they served is fresh and we love their sauces. The temperature today was about 10 degree and really chilling…
After a delicious dinner, we went back to hotel for a good rest and started planning program for tomorrow… till then, good night!
