Faith Turns 27 Months

My goodness… I really can’t believe that my little baby has grown so much! It seemed like yesterday when I was holding her in my arms but now, she is running around and started to have conversation with me.

We are really blessed to have this joy added to our family and we thanked the Lord for this beautiful gift of Life.

Happy 27 Months sweetheart and we always love you dearly.

Morning Ride At East Coast Park

For the longest time we have been trying to bring Faith for a ride at East Coast Park but failed due to hubby’s working schedule. However, it finally happened today as it’s a National Holiday!

Early this morning, we brought Faith to East Coast Park for bicycle ride and it’s her virgin ride… she wasn’t really happy when we put her on the child seat but went along with her papa. Hubby cycled about 20 minutes and I took over from there.

It was somehow difficult to cycle with the child seat at the front. Faith seemed to be quite happy while I was riding her around and talked a lot. She was looking around and pointing out stuff to me like ‘mama, looked… the trees, cats, dogs… Tabi want to mum mum (when we passed the hawker centre)’. It was indeed an interesting and joyful ride though a tiring one.
After a good 40 minutes of riding, we decided to head home as it was getting too hot to hang around the beach. I am sure we will try to make time to East Coast Park again.

The Joy Of Baking

Since it is gonna be a long weekend, I have decided to take some time out to bake a cake for the family. Yes, you have guessed it again… its Strawberry Shortcake again! hahahaahah

This time, I used a different recipe for the cake and it turned out pretty good. The ingredient amount was correct and best part; my cake was not burnt. In the past, some recipe played me out… the timing of the baking was not correct and burnt my cake.

Anyway, this time, I included strawberry jam for the fillings and it tasted great! I think I preferred my strawberry shortcake this time as the cake texture was not too dry and icing the cake looked slightly better than the previous cakes…

However, it is not perfect so, I will need more practice to ‘dress up’ the cake. Hopefully, you will get to see a better looking cake in the near future… *winks*

Zoe’s Birthday Bash

Time flies and little Zoe will be turning 3! Her proud parents invited us to her birthday party at Changi Chalet. Though we know that Aloha has many bungalows but never visited one. It was a little difficult to find the place but we managed.

When we arrived, it was a very big chalet with 4 huge bedrooms on the 2nd floor. Each bedroom can accommodate about 3 couples if you bring your own sleeping bags or float beds. The spacious room somehow gave me some creeps.

The chalet was beautifully decorated and some were busy cooking the food on the BBQ pit outside the house. We were pretty happy that we do not need to be the chef for that night as we were considered guest… hahaahahah…even-though I am part of the family.

I was really excited about the amount and spread of food they have prepared. I took a peak at the BBQ pit and saw some of my favorite foods like satay, ohta ohta, chicken wings, squids etc… the head chef, Josephine (pastor’s wife) was busy cooking while the rest of us helped to send those delicious cooked food to the dinning table.

Apart from the BBQ food, they also prepared fried rice, mango salads, garden salads, fish balls and other cooked food which was contributed by some of their church friends. I have to say that the food that they prepared were delicious!

Since it is National Day, everyone sat around the TV to watch the parade. The main reason for all to watch was to check out if LKY will attend the parade as there were rumors of him passing on before National Day and that somehow stirred up the excitement. The funny part was… everyone went back to what they were doing after LKY appeared on TV looking very much ALIVE and healthy.

We too continued to help ourselves to the delicious spread and I can’t seem to stop eating the honey chicken wings… I enjoyed the BBQ squid, beef, pork ribs and the ohta from Malaysia. My hubby & I can’t seem to leave the food table more than 1 metre… coz’ the food was so good that we can’t stop eating… greedy!!

Cousin Ka Yun prepared Zoe’s birthday cake and gathered everyone at the table. It was an ice-cream cake from Swensen’s and it was pretty. The children were excited when he put the dry ice around the cake and all were so ready to get started.

After the birthday had been sung, we organized for photo session before proceeding to cut the cake for everyone. I was really surprised that the ice-cream cake took so long to cool down and it actually took my cousin quite a big of strength to have the cake CHOP! Yes, I really meant CHOP coz’ it was so FROZEN that we could not cut through but try to have a bigger knife / chopper to cut it. Hubby and church friend saw how hard it took my cousin to cut the cake, they helped him out and finally after struggling for more than 45 minutes, they managed to slice some part of the melting cake…. It was a tasty ice-cream cake but man… I doubt I will order it for Faith’s birthday as it will take long to have it distributed…

Happy Birthday darling Zoe in advance and may the Good Lord bless you always. Thank you cousins for having us to join this wonderful party!

Dinner Gathering With Best Buds

My Twin Theresa organized a dinner gathering since we don’t get to meet that often anymore. We decided to try out the new joint ‘New Ubi Seafood’ located near Bishan. I too heard so much about it through media but have never been there. It’s a good chance for me to try out before bringing the family down.

When we arrived, we were surprised that there are already some early diners in the house. We thought we were early but there are earlier ones… already EATING! Theresa made reservations and this is one kopi shop zi char you have to do booking as it will get very crowded and waiting time can be more than 45 minutes without reservations.

We were given a super corner table… (Beside the drink stall) and the place is interestingly located. There are many car workshops around this cool coffee shop that served very good food. We decided to order as the guy advised us that we should order for it might take long if the crowd floods in.

As planned, each will order a dish so that we will not over order. We ordered the Hong Kong Kai Lan special, bamboo clams, took the promotion of 3 crabs for the price of 2 (chili crab, salted egg & crab been hoon), their signature dish – rib eye and rice.

Since it wasn’t that crowded yet, our dishes were served almost immediately. I would highly recommend the Hong Kong Kai Lan special as it was really different from the normal ones we had. The leaves of the kai lan were fried but the stalk were crunchy. THUMPS UP!
The bamboo clams were delicious but Bird thought it was not cleaned thoroughly as she bit on sand while chewing. As for the 3 types of crabs we ordered, all were nice but I thought the crab from crab noodles were really tasty as it was steamed instead pan fried.

I would say their signature dish Rib Eye was really nice but somehow too bloody even for medium well done. It was quite tough and slightly dry. However, it still tasted good with the onions and mustard. As for their fried rice with beef fats was pretty impressive… mmh… tasted very much like claypot rice.

As usual, we are over ambitious and did not make it to desserts…

Thank you Threz for the wonderful arrangements and let’s do it again soon ya…*winks*

Durian Cake Attempt

I bought some durians back after the party on Thursday night and I have about 6 seeds left over by mum & hubby.

I had the recipe from the internet and decided to give it a shot to bake cake with the left over seeds. Mum helped me to remove the flesh while I prepared all ingredients for cake baking. I was surprised how much durian flesh mum gathered from the six seeds and I blended the flesh with some whipping cream to have a smoother effect.

Overall, the cake turned out pretty well and it had good reviews from parents in law, sis-in-laws. We tried it after our dinner and indeed, it tasted pretty good but of course, I can’t compare to Jane’s Cake Station or Goodwood Park…

I was also told that both niece & nephew enjoyed it so much they each had 2 big pieces. YUMS… I guess it’s time to take up some good baking lessons…*winks*

During Gathering

It has been almost a year since we last had the durian gathering. We finally managed to meet up for this exciting gathering organized by our very own Philip Lim.

We went to have dinner before the Fruit Party at Ippudo located at Mohamad Sultan which was recommended by Minowa-san. Minowa-san as usual, ordered the dishes for us to share and man… I simply loved all of it.

I was particularly excited to know that they served Yakitori during dinner and there were good varieties to choose from. I left it to the good hands of Minowa-san to order as he never fails to order delicious dishes for us.
I enjoyed the tofu salad as we have tried it the previous time when he took Linda Peh & I to the outlet at Mandarin Gallery. It tasted very good and loved the sauce that they used. He ordered other dishes like the fish roe, pork, onions, yam (which was very nice) and cow’s tongue.

We ordered ramen to share as those dishes will not really fill our roaring tummy. We ordered three types of ramen to share while Minowa-san had one on his own. Yums!

After the sumptuous dinner, we travelled to Yio Chu Kang for the ‘Fruit Party’. When we arrived, I was shocked to see how little durians they had compared to our previous visit. This round, Kai Ye told me that they exported most of the good durians to China and the price for durian is very expensive.
This time, we ordered the D24 which was creamy and nice. The ‘Mao San Wang’ which was kind of bitter and their latest brand ‘Green Bamboo’… it was nice too and the shape of the durian really suit the name as they were long and thin….

Before heading home, I bought 2 durians for my family and hopefully to have enough for me to attempt to bake a durian cake over the weekend.

Thank you Philip, Kai-ye and Minowa-san for organizing this enjoyable gathering. Will be looking forward to the next gathering! Cheers!
