The Number 60!

Though we are no longer seeing each other daily but we made it a point to meet as often as we can. I organized a surprise birthday celebration for our dearest mummy Florence whom we missed so much.

I tried to plan the birthday dinner with her but majority were not available to attend on the date I first chose. Finally after the postponement of the dinner, at least half of the group was able to join.

Leng & I decided to have the dinner held at Spring Court and this time, we ordered a-la-carte instead of set menu since we were only 6. I left the food order to our food expert as she never fails us…

She ordered sweet & sour pork, yam ring, homemade beancurd with minced pork, stir fried spinach with garlic, stir fried glutinous rice and a Beijing Duck at $0.83… that was their promotion if you spent $83 on a-la-carte menu and paying by DBS credit card. It’s such a STEAL!

We were surprised that the Beijing duck was very tasty. It wasn’t dry though it was a small duck and the skin was ultra crispy. THUMPS UP! The rest of the dishes were delicious too and thankfully, we ordered enough for everyone.

Before our Yam paste dessert, we surprised mummy dearest with a birthday cake as she did not expect that to come since her birthday passed a week ago. She was really happy and yet shy when we sang her the birthday song… hahahaaha…

It was one fantastic and enjoyable evening with the friends on a Halloween!
Happy belated birthday Mummy Dearest! Wishing you good health always and may the good Lord showers you with his eternal love and blessings…

Lunch@Fat Cat

This is another popular joint in the same neighbourhood at Jalan Riang. Usually, we will visit La Pizzaiola for our meals but today, we thought of trying out this restaurant which is just a few steps away from La Pizzaiola.

We went for early lunch as we attended mass last evening. We ordered aglio, French onion soup and hubby the tomato soup and chicken chop. Faith was feeling a little hungry and started to ask for food. However, the food we ordered had to wait as the western food only operates from 11:30am as they served Sunday Brunch… cool stuff.
The food were great though I thought the aglio was somehow oily… thank God it’s Olive oil lor… otherwise, sure vomit!

Besides western food, this cool joint served Thai food and Indian food too. It’s definitely worth our try for the first time and we will be back to attack the Thai & Indian food next.

Garden By The Bay Excursion

Our company being so called ‘GENEROUS’ contributed a sum of money to Garden by The Bay for their Audio Equipment. This equipment is mainly for tourists as a guide during their tour in the premises… guiding them to know the plants better.

With this contribution, my colleague HL organized an outing for the company to visit the garden. When we arrived in the morning, we were led to the function area for the opening speech of our GM and presentation of the cheque of SD85,000/-.
After which, we were divided into groups of the departments and there was a ‘tour guide’ attached to each group so that she can explain and tell us more of the plants during the tour. Sad to say that the equipment we were using for our group did not work too well and at times, we could hardly hear her. (Thank goodness it was the equipment that we sponsored!)

She brought us to the Cloud Forest as our first venue of visit and though I had been there before but there was no briefing of the plants they have there. With the guide around, I somehow found the place more interesting and got to know more plants during the tour.

In the Cloud Forest, it’s pretty misty and I would say that I got to see and know different types of ferns existing. The crystals area was somewhat interesting with some explanation done and though some are not exactly real but they certainly gave us an idea how the real ones looked like.
At the Flower Dome, it was a different feeling of course; it was more refreshing as there were lots of flowers around. We went to check out the cactus and it was indeed an eye opener to know that there are so many types of cactus rather than the usual ones we see on TV. She also showed us a particular tree that was about 100 years old and was flew in from Brazil. Pretty cool stuff.

Half way through the tour, our little one got bored but we managed to let her hang out with Kate. She seemed to enjoy her company and held her hands to walk around. It was really nice to see them hanging out happily together.

After the tour in the Flower Dome, we went back to the function area for our lunch. We did not stay for lunch as our little one was getting tired and we thought it was a good idea to leave before she gets cranky…

It was an enjoyable 3 hours of tour at the garden despite the scorching hot weather! Thanks HL for the smooth arrangements.

Hari Raya Haji

Though we are not celebrating Hari Raya Haji, but we certainly welcome National Holiday as we can spend time with our loved ones without having to take our own leave.

We went out to dine at Pu Tien since we do not patron this restaurant often. We went for early dinner as we wanted to avoid the crowd on a public holiday. However, when we arrived before 7pm, the restaurant was already almost fully occupied.

Hubby ordered the set dinner for 2 pax which was really reasonable and the dishes seemed to be what we wanted to order. Perfect! There were steamed prawns in the bamboo, sweet & sour pork with lychee, pan fried fish, beancurd skin with vegetables and we chose their signature Xin Hua Bee Hoon as our main course.
After dinner, we went for a walk at Marina Square. It’s been a long time since we last do shopping together as most of the time Faith will be sleeping and that will be too tired for us to carry her around to shop.
She is somehow a great helper who would volunteer to carry our bags after each purchase. I guess that is only for now… bet she will get me to carry her stuff when she grows up!

Just The Two Of Us

It’s been quite a while since we last had dinner together without our little Faith. Since the arrival of Faith, our life turned around and had been great! We want to spend every moment with her and at times, I tend to be quite reluctant to dine only with hubby.

However, I do enjoy our own time together as it will somehow reminds us on our courtship days where we usually dine and watch movies together. Those were the wonderful days but with Faith in our lives, she became our priority.

Hubby suggested that we should have dinner together the eve of Hari Raya as this sort of opportunity does not comes often. We went to our latest favourite joint La Pizzaiola. To our surprise, it was also crowded on a weekday evening but we were thankful that we made reservations in advance.

This time, we ordered their pizza as hubby would like to try it since I have been telling him how good their pizzas were. We too ordered our favourite squid ink pasta, bufala with Parma ham to share.

After the delicious dinner, we took our time and ordered their coffee for the first time. They were having one for one promotion for their coffee which tasted so good. We simply love the service staff there as they were friendly, attentive and very warm. This is one place that we will hang out often not only for the food but the good services.

Faith’s Sunday Luncheon Outing With Grandparents

We did not make it to parents in law’s place on Saturday and in order not to deprive them from seeing their grandchild, we planned to do lunch on Sunday instead.

After our Sunday morning mass, we went to Crystal Jade at Great World City for lunch. It was crowded but we did not wait long to be seated. Faith was disappointed that her favourite char siew bao was sold out but was happy to have the ‘love’ bread I made for her.

There were some coin rides right outside the restaurant and since she had been a good girl during our lunch, we allowed her to take the rides. Though it was a mere short hours of bonding sessions with her grandparents, they were certainly happy to see her.

Faith’s New Hair Cut

It has been quite a while since I last trimmed her hair. Usually I will get yelled at after trimming her hair as most thought I did a terrible job… hahhahahahaa..
Anyway, I went ahead to trim her hair today as it was getting too long and she was somehow frustrated during her feeding time. Her fringe was also touching her eyes and that irritates her quite a bit too.

I was quite proud of myself that I had done quite a good job though I am no professionals. I was really glad that Faith was very co-operative in the process and stood still while I trimmed her hair.
After her hair cut, she quickly wanted me to take pictures of her. As promised, I did and am happy that I have my very own ‘in-house’ model!

In the evening, hubby came back earlier than usual from work as he wanted to bring little Faith to SingKids.

When we arrived at Changi Airport Terminal 3, we went straight for dinner as the queues at all the restaurants was long and it was very crowded on a Saturday evening. We queued at Crystal Jade Shanghai for a good 45 minutes before we were given a seat.

Faith seemed to enjoy the food so much that she had half portion of my ramen and followed by finishing up two char siew bao!!
After dinner, we walked pass SingKids and it was over crowded with kids and adults so, we decided to give it a miss this time. Thank God we didn’t tell Faith that we planned to bring her there… or else, she will be really disappointed. We will bring you there again soon darling.

Faith’s New Hobby

It came to my attention that our little Faith began to love taking pictures. It started when I was showing my mum some pictures on my iPhone and she too wanted to check it out and then, saw her pictures in my phone.

She then told me, “Mama, Tabi want to take photo.” At first, I thought that was very spontaneous of her and I took a few pictures. She found it very fun and started to pose with all her ‘friends’ aka her stuffed toys. She did not let me off that easily… before going to bed, she asked me to take some more pictures of her with her toys again.
She seemed enjoy taking pictures so much that she posed differently with each of her stuffed toys. Lastly, it was pretty thoughtful of her to have her pictures taken with us!

Guess I have to put up with her new hobby for a while…

Café Invited Guest

Ever since Alpha ministry was ‘sacked’ by Alpha Committee, we were hoping that someone will take us in and YES, our prayers were answered. Conny approached Mama Em with an invitation to have us sing for her Café.

Café is one of the ministries in BSC and they are mainly organising talks on evangelizations. I was really happy and excited when was told that we are ‘HIRED’ again! It was a 5 weeks course / talks on evangelization and it was indeed interesting. People who attended the talk were mostly Catholics.

Today, it came to the end of the course and in-conjunction with Mission Sunday, they invited 2 speakers to talk about their Catholic Faith. One of the speakers was our ex-minister Mr Lim Boon Heng. He is one very warm gentlemen and it was my first time meeting him in person though I know who he was.

He spoke about his life and how he became a baptized Catholic at the age of 21. His story was really moving and after hearing his story, I was somehow motivated to be a better Catholic though I considered myself as not too bad… haahaa…

After his talk, dinner began. Café Committee prepared light dinner for everyone who attended which was quite a big number. I heard from friends that there were about 240 attendees for the talk. Totally WOW!!! During the break, Mr Lim went around greeting most of us and stopped for a chat or a picture. Such a warm gentlemen.

We had a great time singing for the crowd and listening to the interesting talks by Mr Lim and Ms Andrea Fung.
Thank you Lord for having us back to serve you and your people.

Italian Lunch

La Pizzaiola became one of our favourite hangouts since the first visit… all thanks for my ‘Twin’ who brought us there for dinner.

Brought hubby there on a Sunday afternoon for lunch and he fell into love ever since. The food served here are simply delicious and prices are reasonable. All dishes in the menu are under $20 and you will not regret having to order more coz’ they are so tasty!

Today, we made reservation as we had to take the counter seat as we did not have a reservation. We were given a table this time and little Faith was able to sit happily beside us. We ordered our favourite Parma ham with bufala cheese, squid ink pasta, ravioli and aglio olio pasta with mushroom for Faith. She enjoyed her pasta pretty much which was a relieved to us as we were worried that she might not want to eat at all.

We will be back again soon…

An Enjoyable Saturday

Little Faith will get excited about visiting her grandparents every Saturday as she will be get to play with her cousin Shevaun whom she meets once a week.

Like every Saturdays, we brought her to grandparents’ place and Shevaun was already playing on her own when we arrived. Shevaun too got excited when she saw Faith. They gave each other a hug and started to play their toys together.
Since the girls were playing happily on their own and while helping out my in-law to set up the dinner table, the simple dishes she cooked looked really good and decided to take some pictures to share with you guys.
When we got home after dinner, she was still very active and awake! I played blocks building with her for a while before I chased her to bed. Then she suddenly told me… “mama, Tabi want to take photo…” I knew she wouldn’t go to bed if her request is not granted. She went on and on taking pictures with all her ‘friends’ and finally got tired…
It was indeed a well-spent Saturday with her and I wished every weekend is longer…

Fish Curry Luncheon

I am happy that my darling (Angela) suggested having fish curry for lunch but not the reason why I was excited about… it was her companionship I was happy of. It has been a while we lunched together as she preferred to lunch alone.

As usual, Leng & Jessie went to get a seat at the ‘forever crowded Suntec foodcourt’ and ordered some other dishes other than the fish curry. We had Leng’s ‘MUST HAVE’ sweet & sour pork and vegetables.
It did not take long for our fish curry to be served as darling ordered in advance. We were shocked to see how huge the claypot fish curry turned out to be. We enjoyed the fish curry and our side dishes and found out that there were six pieces of fish in that claypot compared to the previous time. I was thankful that they were fish fan so… we managed to clear the dishes on our table. Steady man!

I believed we will have another round of fish curry luncheon before the foodcourt closes end of this year…

Luncheon@NUSS

This place has been around for the longest time but this is our virgin visit to this restaurant which is secretly located on the 5th Floor of Suntec Tower 4.

Koko’s hubby is a member of NUSS and heard from him that it’s a club known in NUS and many students signed up to be members so that they can use the club facilities. In the Suntec branch, they are able to get discounted rate when they join the fitness club and use the swimming pool too.

Anyway, this restaurant served many different types of food. We each ordered a dish and I was shocked by the generous portion when it was served. My char kuay teow can be shared by at least 2 or 3 pax… I got to say this… it tasted very GOOD! Thumps up!
Unfortunately, Jerrel told us that this restaurant will be moving out soon as they were unable to get to terms on the renewal contract. Anyway, thank you for bringing us there.

In-house Training

Our old fashion office finally decided to upgrade our Microsoft Office 2003 to Office 2010 and our email system Loutus Notes to Outlook after so many decades! I am really surprised that this ‘branded’ company can be so super ‘SLOW’ upgrading their software!

The IT Dept. kindly organized a training session for all staff and I attended with my buddies today. The training commenced from nine in the morning and should end around five this evening. To be honest, I am somehow quite excited to find out how they have improved for Office 2010. As usual, I was seated with my 2 partner-in-crime and feeling fresh in the morning with 2 interesting topics – Word & Excel. I thought they have improved quite a bit though the page outlook is different.
After luncheon, we returned to the conference room for the 2nd half session. This time, they touched on Pivot Table which was so boring and it was something that I have never heard of! It was found somewhere in the excel and it helped you with graphs and others (sorry… I can’t remember already). I was trying to stay awake as it will be too embarrassing to doze off…
I was somehow awake after the short break and gotten excited over the topic on Powerpoint. This would be my favorite in Microsoft Office. I was really thrilled to see so many interesting stuff you can do using powerpoint. There are so many cool functions and including inserting video into the presentations. Super COOL!

Finally, the instructor touched a little on our upcoming Outlook email systems by just explaining to us some of the basic stuff. It had gotten too dry as we were unable to view it on our PC as we are still using Lotus Notes. It became so dull that I had a hard time keeping my eyes opened… yes, I almost gave up… I tried to keep myself awake by taking pix of my buddies so that we can keep each other awake.., hahaahah… and that worked! WE PULLED THROUGH!
We became super awake and fresh when he gave out our certificates… we graduated!!

Wonderful Sunday

I was happy to receive the bread mould which I ordered last week and I waited till today to use it. I prepared some bread for little Faith as snacks since she can be quite noisy and cranky during luncheon. I spread the bread with nutella chocolate.

When she saw the cute little bread, she was very happy and excited to eat them. She used to dislike bread as they were quite plain and she only eats butter roll. I was glad that she finished them within minutes and asking for more. She even gave a thumps up for them…hahahaha
While shopping at Tampines Mall, she noticed that there were some rides along on almost every level and wanted to ride on it. Well, we obviously will not deprive her on that as that’s what kids do. We gave her the freedom to choose the rides and she being a Sesame Street fan, she chose it without any hesitation.
On our way home, she was asking for some bread but her lunch box was empty. I was surprised that she requested muffins and having to satisfy her crave, I went to get some flour and chocolate chips for baking. It did not take me much time to bake those muffins and yes, she loved them.
I would say this is one well spent outing with our little angel. Thank God for the blessings.

Dinner Outing With The Girls

I always enjoy spending time with my buddies as we do not meet as often compared to our younger days… Okie… not that we are OLD but now that we have families to take care of, there are lesser chance for me to meet.

Thanks to Threz who organized a dinner gathering tonight at Din Tai Fung. This is one of the restaurants that we love to hang out for their good food. We met at the restaurant and we were lucky that they accepted our reservation.

We placed our orders immediately when we sat down and the dishes were served pretty quickly as it wasn’t crowded! To be honest, I wasn’t sure what my friends ordered as I only requested for 2 of my favourite dishes…
When the dishes started serving at our table, I was really shocked to realise how much food we have ordered. However, we managed to clear all the dishes on our table including a complimentary dessert.
The complimentary dessert was the chocolate red bean paste xiao long bao. Initially, I was feeling with disgust by the description… but when the small bun arrived at our table, it looked really cute and I decided to give it a try since it was FOC. The bun was freshly steamed upon order and the first bite was heavenly… from someone who dislikes chocolates & red bean!

With that dessert, we suddenly went mad! It turned back the clock to the Old School days where we loved to use the chocolate to act as our tooth decay… it was hilarious and in fact, GONE MAD!! I guessed the patrons in the restaurant might think we were drugged!
This is one of the reasons why I enjoyed every outing with my buddies coz’ the outing always left us with fond memories. Love you guys! Thanks Threz for the wonderful arrangements! Till then… better sober up… haaahahahha
