Orange Chiffon Cake Attempt

Since the arrival of my oven, I can’t wait to try out baking different types of cakes. This weekend, I tried out the Orange Chiffon Cake. However, it turned out pretty good but not soft enough.

I brought some to my in-law’s place for them to try and the feedback wasn’t that bad. Little Faith seemed to enjoy the cake and ate two at one go… I tasted it too but it wasn’t as soft as those sold in Bengawan Solo. Will try to improve it… hahaahah

As usual, Faith enjoyed playing all the toys at in-laws as she does not have that many at home. We don’t buy her new toys often as she might not treasure her old ones. We preferred to let her learn to treasure whatever is given to her.

Mmmh…. Let me see what cake I will try out next week ya..

Lunch Date With Minowa-san

It’s been a long time since I last lunched with Minowa-san. Today, he kindly invited Linda Peh & me to lunch with him (we became his lunch partners at times).

He never failed to bring us to special restaurants and this time, no exceptional. We went to La Luna Rosa, a newly opened Italian Restaurant located at new Scotts Square. It was my first time visiting that shopping mall since its opening. The shopping wasn’t as big as I imagined and the whole look was difference compared to the one look… I really miss the old Scotts as I used to hang out there with my schoolmates… the cool food court that served beef noodles, ice-kachang etc…

Anyway, we were seated by the window looking at the busy streets of Scotts Road. La Luna Rosa usually served set lunches on weekday but thanks to the popularity of Minowa-san, the chef allowed us to order a-la-carte instead.

Minowa-san ordered mostly our favorite dishes like tuna tartare & calamari tempura for our starters. The tuna sashimi salad was awesome man… the tuna was so fresh that it simply melt in my mouth. The tempura calamari was tasty too and best, it’s not oily! YUMS!

We tried out the Uni (Sea Urchin) pasta and beef bolognese with truffles. I would say that I preferred the uni pasta at Otto than La Luna Rosa… but I really love the Bolognese here… it had a perfect score from me!! I am very sure hubby will LOVE IT!

For our mains, he ordered fish and steak with foie gras. This is one fantastic dish I tell you! The steak was tenderly cooked and juicy… and the foie gras simply melts in your mouth! The taste was superb!

Desserts, Linda ordered the berries with jelly while both Minowa-san & I had ice-creams. I wouldn’t want this enjoyable lunch to end but we have to be back to reality… Sighz…

Thank you Minowa-san once again for the wonderful and enjoyable lunch!

Cupcake With Cream Cheese Icing

Replaced a brand new oven over the weekend and started baking once again! I used to bake cookies for my friends when I had the time in the past till it broke down on me couple of years back.

I was so excited to get a new oven and bought all my ingredients after the arrival of my new cool oven! I took out my recipe book and bake my 1st cupcake after a long time. It was my first time making icing which I have always wanted to.

For the 1st time, I managed to make the cream cheese icing… However, I thought it was too sweet as I followed exactly what they wrote on the recipe. Brought some for my colleagues and though they enjoyed the cake but the icing was too sweet… I will definitely want to practice to get a better result.

Family Outing

We have wanted to organize a family outing but can’t really spare time to travel out of Singapore. Maggie kindly booked the chalet at Aloha Loyang which we had once stayed many years ago.

However, it was all fully booked for the weekend due to the one precious week of school holidays. We checked in on a Wednesday evening and noticed that it was pretty crowded already. Many families booked in earlier and were enjoying their BBQ… we couldn’t do much as we were all very tired after work so, we had an early night.

This morning, we woke up early and decided to take a stroll after our delicious breakfast. It had been such a long time since I last strolled along the beach… it reminded me of those school days where we had chalet party almost every weekends.

In the afternoon, we went marketing at Tampines after our lunch and bought all the food for our BBQ tonight. We even planned to celebrate Gen’s birthday in advance. Everyone was enjoying the marketing including the kids.

In the evening, it took us about an hour to get the fire started! Man… I used to be quite ok at setting up the fire for BBQ but guess… it has been too long since I last attended BBQs…. Anyway, we had a great time cooking our cook on charcoal! As for dessert, we had a small birthday celebration for Genevive and she was delighted to see her favorite strawberry shortcake including the two little babies.
It was certainly a great family outing though it was only a short one… mmmh… we will try to plan for the next one hopefully SOON…

Happy Birthday Sheryl

In the past, we don’t get many chances to celebrate birthday for Sheryl as she was flying then. This year, we managed to have a small party for her at home. Maggie bought her sister (Sheryl) a cake and had a small celebration after dinner.
Happy Birthday Sheryl!

Dinner With Alpha Buddies

Emily Mama kindly invited us to dinner at The American Club. It has been a long time since we last met as we were no longer serving Alpha.

She brought us to dine at their Chinese Restaurant, The Second Floor which was first visit. In fact, I didn’t know that there is a Chinese Restaurant in American Club…. Hahaahah… usually we will dine with her at their café located at the lobby or café that served good pizza at the pool side.

She ordered all our favorite dishes like wasabi mayo prawns, French beans with minced pork, roast chicken, pan fried bean curd skin, black pepper beef cubes and the delicious home made tofu with mushrooms. For desserts, we ordered their lava cake topped with vanilla ice-cream. It was YUMS!

I was really surprised that the food was so good. The quality of the food is really good as well as the quantity! The portion was good enough to feed 5 hungry adults… hahaahahah… I am really glad to have them as my buddies though we do not meet on every Thursdays anymore, but we are still close…

Thank you God for giving me such wonderful pals.

Faith & her ‘Friends’

We are blessed with friends who love our little Faith so much that they showered her with toys. Out of the lot, I am proud to say that a few were won by me during our trip to Hong Kong last November.

She seemed to like the stuffed toys pretty much that she will cuddle them and at times, put them on the floor where she sits. When she leaves for school every morning, she will walk to them to bid goodbye and greets them when she returns home.

The Conrad Bear is one of her favorite as that would consider her first stuffed toy. She used to hug it everywhere she goes (in the house) and even have it placed beside her when she sleeps. Now, she only plays with the bear when she is in the living room… guess she is bored with the bear…
