Happy Full Month Baby Shana

I recalled it was only a couple of weeks back when we visited my cousin Ka Yun and Florence when they welcomed their 2nd Princess; Baby Shana at Mount A.

Today, we are here at Canaan Church to celebrate her full month. Initially, the party was held at their humble home but due to haze, they decided to shift the celebration at the church they attends.
It was a great event where friends and family gathering to celebrate this wonderful gift from God. Faith has lots of fun hanging around with her cousin Zoe and the church friends.

Shana, may the good Lord always bless and shower you with His Love and Blessings.

Gathering With The Rambutans

One of our friends, Rena who is currently teaching at an international school in Jakarta is back home for a holiday. I can’t recall when the last time we met… I guessed it was many years back.

I am happy that after days of planning, we finally managed to have a dinner gathering at our favourite Italian Restaurant, La Pizzaiola. I was on ½ day leave to spend time with Faith before I headed out to the rest.

While we waited for the rest to turn up, we decided to start off with the starters like egg plants, burratina with parma ham etc… it was really great to catch up with friends whom I have not met for ages.

We then ordered our mains and pizzas after the rest arrived and we chatted the night away. Everyone enjoyed the good food as most were first timers. We were so into many topics that we actually forgot about the time… it was pretty late and we decided to adjourn to another place for desserts.

As we drove down towards town, there was a heavy traffic and we finally decided to settle at Shangri-La lobby lounge since it was quite on the way. We realized it was a fine place to sit and chat with lounge singer. We ordered our drinks and continued with our topics and some sharing of ghost stories…
Time passed so fast and by the time we realized, it was already past midnight. Some of us were so tired that we left for home but the rest of the five heroines continued their journey to Jalan Kayu for prata supper.

Lunch At GOTO

Today is Minowa-san’s last day with MC and he kindly invited Linda & me to lunch with him. I am truly honoured to have lunch with him as I believed I will definitely miss him. It was such pleasure working with him for a good 5 years before my 2 years plus nightmare began to haunt me.

We left slightly early for lunch with the permission granted by my new boss. He is very understanding and gladly allowed me to leave early for lunch. I was really happy and looking forward to lunch at GOTO again.

This time, there was another patron when we arrived at the restaurant compared to the previous time when we were their only customers. They have different set menus everyday depending on the chef and the good thing about it is; you get to try out different dishes each time you visit.

The set menu today was great too starting off with the super fresh sashimi which was truly yummy especially the squid which melts in your mouth. I couldn’t recall the names of the other dishes as there was no menu given to us. The waitress will only inform us the dish when it was served and obviously I have forgotten about it…

Thank you very much Minowa-san for the wonderful and delicious lunch and I do sincerely wish you all the best in your new company. This will not be the last time we will meet and I believed we will keep close contact with you for you are no longer our boss but a very good friend.

Hello Kitty Craze

I remembered there was a Hello Kitty craze many years back when McDonald’s came up with the stuffed toys when you buy their value meals. Back then, it was a total sell-out weekly when different pairs of Hello Kitty were put up. I recalled reports on many people fought over it due to jumping of queues and some even went across the border to get their missing CATS…

This year, apart from the Haze, the Hello Kitty craze is back again. This time, it was the fairy tale theme where it’s almost a to-die-for collection for collectors of course. For me, I bought it for the fun of it for Faith as she somehow developed the love for this Cat!

Though I did not managed to collect all of them but at least a few was good enough. When it came to the last week where collectors believed that the ‘black cat’ is a collector’s item, everyone went mad. There were reports of people started to queue up for this stuffed toy before mid-night and started to buy their meals at the struck of twelve.

I instructed hubby to get it when he buys the breakfast at the drive-in but he failed as many outlets were already sold-out by 1am. It was quite disappointing but we weren’t that crazy to queue overnight. Thanks to Linda who managed to get it for me when our dear tea-lady Eunice called her early this morning to inform her that she will be late as she was at Mac… Linda immediately asked her if it’s alright to get her a meal with the stuffed toy and YES, they made it!

I was really happy and really appreciated their effort of going through this to get our little girl her black cat… Seeing her happy and full of smiles when I showed her after I got home was definitely worth it…

Thank you Eunice & Leng for getting this Black Cat for Faith! HUGS!!

Haze Daze…

The haze is really getting on many Singaporean’s nerves as the PSI readings continued to climb. Today, the reading went up to 401 which is considered ‘dangerous’ but both our company and government did not take much action except for updating the PSI readings hourly…

When my three dear friends went out to get lunch, they had to wear their mask due to the strong burning smell. Our neighbour Indonesia is still not doing much to stop the forest fire and we have to suffer… even our little Faith had to wear a mask when head out to send my mum to the doctor…

When will this Haze Daze ends….

Haze 社会

The Haze is getting bad each day and the PSI reading is climbing up faster than ever. I was shocked by the PSI reading today as it climbed up to 200 at lunch time. The whole skyline at our office pantry turned to a scene where you found buildings disappeared…

When we headed out to get our lunch, even a short distance from office to the food court was such a pain due to the strong burning smell. I was really upset about the haze and why people in Indonesia can be so irresponsible on their action.

The haze got so bad that I turned to wearing mask though I do not feel comfortable breathing. I guess we only can pray for rain...

Haze Is Back

We have been having clear sky for the past couple of years and this year, the Haze came back to haunt us.

The PSI readings was climbing up as the hour passed and at lunch time today, the PSI went up to 107 reaching the unhealthy range. It wasn’t the highest so; guess nothing to worry about….
Hoping for a clearer day tomorrow…

Father’s Day Weekend – Part II

Hubby was excited about the breakfast served at Prego’s as it was our first time staying in Fairmont and having breakfast at Prego’s.

At Prego’s, there was no queue and we were given a seat almost immediately. I brought Faith along to get our breakfast and I was really impressed by the spread. I would say that the breakfast spread is much better than many other hotels we had stayed… but I am never the breakfast person… so, I had a small portion.

Faith was pretty happy with her choice of cereal and sat by herself enjoying the food. Hubby had a great time at breakfast but was planning for luncheon… as the weather wasn’t good for a swim, we decided to do shopping and then return home.

This evening, we celebrated Father’s Day at Yan’s Palace located at Chinatown. The food was pretty good and we believed it’s a Hokkien Restaurant. It was pretty crowded due to Father’s Day but we were glad that we made reservation.

Happy Father’s Day to all the Heroes in our life!

Father’s Day Weekend

Recently, I met the hotel manager from Fairmont Singapore and she told me about the hotel room promotion happening from April to June. With this special rate, I decided to book a room to celebrate Father’s Day.
Hubby got to work today and I took Faith to check in early at the hotel. She was really excited about the hotel stay and when we got into our room, she walked around the room and told me that the room was nice. She was busy checking out every corner of the room while I unpacked some of the stuff.
When hubby arrived, we set off for evening mass before heading to dinner at Skinny Pizza. The joint has become one of our favourite restaurant as we enjoyed the squid ink pizza and their delicious pastas.
While hubby was taking a shower, I called the housekeeping department to send up the cake which was warmly arranged by the Sales Manager. Hubby was surprised with the sight of the cake when he came out of the shower.

Faith was just as excited as her dad when I was preparing the cake on the table. It was a cheese cake prepared by the hotel and it wasn’t Faith’s favourite cake. Hubby & I had a slice each and the rest we left it there…

Farewell Dinner For Minowa-san

I have known Minowa-san since the day I joined MC and it was indeed a great pleasure working with him when he co-headed my department for a wonderful 5 years.

He has been working for MC for many years and he has decided to retire at the end of this month. He is one of the best Japanese we have ever known and as a gesture of our appreciation; we had a simple farewell dinner for him.

Steven arranged dinner at Ah Hoi, a Teochew Restaurant located at Chinatown. That would be my second time visiting this authentic restaurant. As usual, we left the ordering of dishes to Steven as he has been a regular customer there and we trust that he will order their signature dishes for us.
The food was delicious especially the fried oyster omelette, braised duck, chili crayfish & the cold crab. All the dishes were yummy! We were glad that Minowa-san enjoyed the food and he too mentioned that this should not be a farewell dinner as he would very much want to keep close in touch with us for future gatherings.
We would like to wish him all the very best in his next job at MHI.

Bak Chang Festival

This is one of my favourite festivals as I will get to taste homemade dumplings from colleagues. It has been a yearly affair that my buddy Jessie would bring some homemade dumplings from home.

This year, she did not fail us too and we have additional dumplings from Samantha who is only three months old in our company. She is no doubt new but she hit it off well with all of us and eventually became one of our lunch companion.

Today, we had a small bak chang lunch party in our office. Though the dumplings looked pretty small in size but it was definitely tasty and filled our tummy. Me, being someone who has gastric problems but loves dumplings… had two and the half of it… I was really contented but would love to have more as they were delicious.
Thank you Jessie & Sam Sam for the delicious dumplings…

Hotpot Luncheon

Our boss Yatomi-san planned lunch for our department and he brought us to this Hotpot restaurant located at Clarke Quay. I was actually surprised to know that we are going for hotpot for lunch as it is always better to have that during dinner.

Anyway, we went ahead with his suggestion as he mentioned that he checked the restaurant during the weekends and found that there was a big crowd all the time. When we arrived at the restaurant, it was pretty empty on a weekday lunch time. The restaurant is surprising big and the décor was pretty nice and cozy.
After we were seated, the waitress provided us the menu on an ipad and I thought that was pretty cool. We browsed through the menu and started ordering the dishes. I would say that they are quite similar to the ones I visited in Hong Kong but of course lesser choice here.

We ordered the twin soup – hot & spicy and the chicken soup which was their signature. Shortly after our orders, our dishes were served. Boss was pretty familiar with how to cook the food as he cooked for himself during the weekends. He cooked a few dishes for us while we were eating… hahahahaha

The food was pretty nice and we simply loved the chicken soup base as it was really tasty. The price for the food here was quite reasonable and I would say that the service was GREAT. The staffs were very attentive and acted on our request almost immediately.

I would want to visit this restaurant again perhaps with friends or family. However, heard that you have to book this restaurant a week in advance to get your seat!! I will be back…

Gathering At GM’s Place

Our generous GM Yasuno kindly invited all staff to his house for a casual gathering. As there is too many staff in our office, they have decided to plan it by departments.

Today, it is our party! The party is joint by ENE, HR, MAC & IFLD Departments. There was a small organising committee set up just for this party and after discussion, we decided to have peranakan food for our party and we even prepared some childhood games to entertain the staff in case they gets bored.

When everyone arrived at GM’s place, we began the party with a short speech by GM and after a toast, dinner began… everyone seemed to enjoy the spread that we ordered and we even had good comments about the food.

It was somewhat a casual gathering where everyone is free to move around the house and it was really great to see people enjoying the food and conservations with one another. Bosses were also more relaxed and joined in to chat.

After dinner, some of us started the ball rolling by playing some of the games that we brought to the house, like chaptek, marbles and we even started to play twister. Everyone had their choices to play whatever games suits them and some started to form groups to play twister while others preferred to drink their night away.
I would say this is one great & fun gathering but we have to thank our GM for being spotting to play games with us and having us at his place.

Visit Ms Shana Wong

We are happy to receive the news that we have another new addition to the Wong Family yesterday. My cousin Ka Yun, Florence and little Zoe welcomes baby Shana at Mount Alvernia Hospital.

We were excited about the news and went to visit them this afternoon and little Shana was really cute. Zoe, now a big sister to little Shana showed us her little sister who was sleeping soundly and told us not to be loud! Faith was curious and told me that baby Shana is very cute but did not allow me to carry her.
Congratulations cousin Ka Yun & Florence for the arrival of the beautiful Shana. We are sure God will continue to bless & shower her with lots of love.
