Goodbye Pal

It is always hard to say goodbye to colleague or a friend and today, we are bidding farewell to our dear Yan Ting after 19 years of friendship.

We joined this company in the same year during those days in our old office located at Robinsons Road. Though we are in the same company but we are from different department. She used to handle my department’s accounts and it was really a great pleasure working with her all these years.

Time flies and it’s been 19 years… she finally decided to leave our company after much consideration. I must say that I do feel sad to lose a wonderful colleague but happy for her at the same time. She is FREE from all those stress from her boss and her superiors. In my opinion, she is one of those good colleagues that this company should really consider to keep and reward them.

From the many years that I have been with this company, I would have left long ago if it is not for the wonderful colleagues here. They are the reasons why till date I am still with this company. The bosses changed almost every 3-4 years but you will never if your next boss will be an angel or a monster!

I have been through a few changed of bosses and so far, only two of them were MONSTERS or I would categorize them as terrorists. They were more like barbarians than humans… perhaps they weren’t from this planet after all.

This company should really learn how to treat and reward their staff or in no time, this company will no longer has their values and history as it will be run by all new staff. Anyway, I am sure it feels great to be a tai tai rather than an employee who did not appreciated by boss. I can’t wait for mine to come…

Ah Ting, do take good care, enjoy your tai tai lifestyle and do keep in touch!

Art Lesson With Maggie

Faith loves to visit grandparents’ place during the weekend as she gets to play with her cousin Shevaun though at times they fight over toys.

Today, there were some surprises from Maggie who is currently on maternity leave. She thought it would be fun for the kiddos to do something interesting since they are pretty much bored with the toys at home.

Maggie brought a plain lantern from Daiso and some paints for the kiddos to do some painting. She showed me what they are going to do and I was excited to see how it will turn out.
When I returned from the sunset mass, I was surprised to see how well the girls did. They painted the lantern and it turned out to be a very cute and beautiful owl! Faith was really happy and she even showed me the area where she painted.
Thank you Maggie for entertaining Faith while I was away and making her 35th months a meaningful one.

Teochew Dinner Gathering

Recently our ex-colleague Peter has returned to Millenia Tower for his new job in a Chinese company. After bumping into him a couple of times, we thought it will be good to meet up to do some catch up over dinner.

Steven kindly arranged dinner at a Teochew Restaurant at Boon Keng area. Though I have stayed in that area since my teenage years, I have never known any good Teochew Restaurants.

We went to Yuan Xin Teochew Restaurant located at Block 34, Whampoa West. When we arrived at the restaurant, it was almost empty with only 2 tables occupied. After browsing through the menu and ordered several popular dishes like cold crab, braised duck, steamed fish, prawn rolls, fried oyster omelette, vegetables with silver fish and stirred fried rice noodles with chai pok. All the mentioned dishes were delicious especially the rice noodles… THUMPS UP!

As for dessert, Steven ordered yam paste with ginko nuts. It was tasty but slightly oily for me. Overall the food served in this restaurant was great but I guess the pricing ain’t cheap. It was a treat from Peter as he mentioned that it was a great gathering after many years and he will be the host for tonight.
Thank you Peter for the wonderful dinner and Kai Ye for arranging!

SVDP Outing

It is a yearly affair that SVDP of BSC will organise outing for their fins and SVDP members. As hubby is one of the members, we were also invited to join too. This year, they arranged an outing to S.E.A. Aquarium located at Sentosa Marine Life Park.

We set off early on a semi-cooling Sunday morning and upon reaching church, we board the coach which was arranged by SVDP. Everyone was happy to see Faith as they usually get to meet her only during special occasions or SVDP gatherings as we are not attending weekly mass at BSC.

When we arrived at the Resorts World ground, Faith was very happy to see the poster of the Sesame Street which was hang on one of the wall. She requested me to take a picture of her with her favourite Elmo. She asked me if we are going to meet Elmo later and she was rather disappointed when I told her we will not.
I was quite excited to visit the S.E.A. Aquarium after hearing and reading so much about it. It gave you a good feeling when you first enter the premises where they displayed many traditional games, spices and culture of Singapore. It was quite an interesting walk before we entered the aquarium.

Faith was excited at first to see the big fish tank when we entered the aquarium. She said with excitement “mama, look… big fish here! Can you see?” She stood for a few minutes and then came back to me saying ‘mama, big fish there, Tabi scared’. Hahaahahahah….
As we made our tour in the aquarium, we saw many different types of fishes, large spider crabs, jelly fish and other species of sea creatures. Faith seemed to like the jelly fish as she found them harmful as they moved gracefully in the tank compared to the spider crab that gave her creeps.

When we reached the huge tank where you can find beautiful sting rays ‘flying’ around and other cool fishes, I was really amazed by the many different species of fishes in that huge tank. While Faith went forward to have a closer look, a big sting ray came close to the tank and stick itself to the tank in front of her… she gave out a loud cried… ‘mama, mama… I don’t want to be here… I am scary!’… hahahaahaha… I calmed her down but she refused to stay not even for another second… I think the sting ray really scared her…

After that incident, she was quite reluctant to move closer to the smaller thanks to check out the fishes. She wanted us to carry her instead so that she can be protected in some ways or another. Finally, when we reached the last area… it was the sharks where we showed her and she said, ‘mama, I want to go out, I don’t want to stay here…’
We brought the fins to lunch at the popular Malaysia Street Food located nearby. It was pretty crowded and in fact, it was filled with tourists… mostly from China!!! After lunch, we set off back to church by the coach.
It was quite a good trip though we were only given two and the half hours to tour the Aquarium but I thought it was good enough… after all, it’s only an aquarium.

Dinner With The Laus

Our US friends are in town and I gladly planned dinner with them so that we can do a bit of catching up after 20 years!

Susan & I arrived at City Hall to wait for the brothers but only to know that they will be very late as they were delayed at their friend’s shop. We know that all their friends were trying to have some time with them and it’s pretty normal since they were away from Singapore for more than 20 years!

Susan & I decided to head down to Skinny Pizza to get a seat while waiting for them. Finally, the stars arrived after 1 and the half hour later. We were happy to see them though they were late and their dad came along too.

Initially, I was somehow worried that they might be bored with western food as there were lots of them in the US. To my surprised, they enjoyed the pizzas and so were the side dishes that we ordered.

We were happy to spend a good dinner with the boys; especially when Otto & Alex were sharing some of their funny stories in US and those good old days in Singapore. We hope to spend more time with them but we have to end dinner so that they can adjourn to another party planned for them. We heard from them that they had many places to run and many to meet in a day! At times, they had forgotten who they have met…

Guys, we do hope you will continue to enjoy Singapore and please come back to visit us again in the near future! We will miss you!

Meeting Up Old Friends

It is always nice to know that friends you have known for ages and who are staying overseas are back to SIN on holiday. This very old & good friend of mine is back in town on a holiday with his family.

I knew about their visit a month ago and we tried to arrange time to meet up since we have not seen each other for more than 18 years. I remembered when he left SIN for the U.S of A, I was only 15 years old and I went to the airport to see them off. Man… that was such a long time ago!

I know that their schedules in SIN will be much tied as they have tons of people they got to meet and yes, I am one of the lucky ones. I took some time to meet with them since they had time to spare before their appointment.
It was certainly great to meet up with old friends and knowing that their dad still remembers me. We sat to chat for a while though I know we will meet again tomorrow for dinner. Alex hasn’t changed a bit but Otto, his younger brother definitely did! I remembered the last time I saw him in the US, he had long hair and looked like Brad Pitt in Interview with the Vampire and this time, he looked better than Brad Pitt! SUPER CUTE!
Though it was a short meeting due to time constrained but I am happy to know that we are still meeting up for dinner again tomorrow. Yippy!

Sending Off Suganou-San

Today is one super tiring day for me and some of my colleagues who woke up so early to see off our boss.

Leng came to pick me early this morning and I was still half-asleep when I met her. It was actually quite painful to sacrifice my precious beauty sleep but when I arrived at the airport seeing how happy Suganou-san was to see us, I thought it was all worth it.

We only had like 20 minutes of chat with him before sending him off to the departure gate. I believed some of us have mixed feelings seeing him leave coz’ he has been our boss for a good 4 years plus.

Clubbing At MINK

It’s been ages since I last clubbed. This time, Rie suggested to go clubbing since there are some new clubs opened recently. We thought about it and decided to check out the hottest club ‘MINK’.

There were so reports on this club and some even mentioned that this could be the club that will take over Zouk soon. After reading all these reports, we went ahead.

When we met at Pan Pacific after dinner, the club was kind of COLD so, we decided to chill at the lobby lounge at the hotel. The music was surprising nice and actually had my legs moving… if that’s a club, I would have stood up and dance!

We finally plucked up our courage to get into Mink and when we saw the club, we were all in SHOCKED! The place consists of two different areas. Royal Room - the drinking place which is similar to Wine Bar at Zouk has pretty cool R&B music but the crowd was pretty bored.

The main dance floor was the WORST! The whole place is actually smaller than Velvet. We checked out the seats and counters but they were all booked up so, we ended up at the bar counter. We checked out their drink list and feeling bored, we ordered our drinks and wait for the dance to start.
The crowd was young and totally boring! We were glad that Daphne had warmed up the dance floor and we joined her thereafter. I was pretty much pissed with those youngsters who just stood around to either people watching or wanted to be watched! Totally waste of time!! The music was not too bad with a mixture of new and old R&B songs. At one of time, Daphne & Linda went up to dance on the platform and we followed after a while.

The feeling of me dancing on the platform really brought me back to those days when I used to dance at Zouk. Those were the good old Zouk days where we will meet there every Friday even without any prior planning. I danced like no tomorrow obviously and I do notice that some youngsters on the ground were wondering where on earth this lady is from… full of energy! Hahahaah…

We concluded that this club sucked big time and we will not be heading back anymore. I think Zouk is still the Number ONE club in Singapore!

Boss’s Last Working Day

Today is the last working day for Suganou-san as he will be returning to TOK on Monday. Honestly, I do have mixed feelings about him returning to Japan for good. He is basically alright at times but when it comes to decision making, he always push it to his staff. Sighz…

As for the new boss, we are still keeping our comments as it will be pretty early to know if he is nice… but guess not. He is somewhat strict and want his things to be done fast. Mmmhhh… at times, it can be good.
Before he starts going around bidding goodbye to everyone, we took the opportunity to have pictures with him since he was available. It was a nice gesture for our new boss to prepare a flower basket for Suganou-san.

Faith’s Loving It

When I got home today, I was surprised by Faith’s new look. My mum tied Faith’s hair and she loved it. Mum then told me that she found Faith’s hair very messy and decided to tie it up for her and successful after saying some sweet words.

She was really happy with her new hair style and wanted me to take some photos of her so that she could see herself. Mmmh… now I can start getting her some nice rubber bands and clips...
