‘Homely’ Luncheon

We were invited to lunch ‘inspection’ by our boss once again and this time was rather different as we had to pre-order our set lunch in advance.

When we arrived at Xi Yan located near Tanjong Pagar, I felt that I was returning to my childhood house… it was a shop-house like restaurant where you have to climb a pile of pine wood stairs before you reach the entrance.

I was really amazed by the place as it did not look anything close to a restaurant but a shop-house I used to live when I was a child. The pine wooden flooring and the cool looking wooden windows (repainted and glassed) gave me a homely feeling. There were only 6 tables in total and that was the reason why reservations and pre-ordered menus are necessary.

It was a pre-ordered set lunch and appetizers were served shortly after we were seated. Soon after their in-house appetizers, our Furong Chicken Soup was served. The taste of the soup was really tasty though the appearance of it wasn’t appealing. There was only ONE special meat ball (which consist of scallop, pork, chives, prawn etc)… it was indeed tasty.

Here comes my favorite dish….Green House Tomatoes in Wasabi Sesame sauce. My goodness… that was the sweetest and the bestest tomatoes I have tasted in my life man!!! My tongue was shouting ‘WHAT WAS THAT YOU ATE!!! I WANT MORE’…It was sweet, soft and juicy especially with the unique wasabi sesame sauce. This is a WINNER!!!!

Our next dish was Stewed Beef Shin with preserved tangerine peel. The beef was extremely tender and very interesting combination with preserved tangerine peel. By the way, those three dishes I mentioned above were just the appetizers from our set menu….

Pagoda Dongpo Pork Belly with preserved vegetable stuffing & mushrooms were the first of our main dishes. To our surprised, the pork belly dish was decorated like a Pagoda… well, just as the name of the dish… it was very delicious and I simply enjoyed the preserved vegetables with belly…. YUMMY!

Roast Chicken with lemongrass and shrimp paste was pretty normal and the next dish was Steam Fish in Spicy Chilli sauce on rice noodle. Mmmh…. we were shocked to see the huge fish head covered with chili oil… tasty but we were too full to finish… but when the last dish arrived… Stir fried mushrooms with pickled cucumber, it was SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO GOOOOD!! Very plain but heavenly tasty!

The dessert was awesome! Water Chestnut sorbet with bird’s nest shooter! It was refreshing after a full course lunch and bird’s nest… What can I say!! FANTASTIC!

Simply great luncheon indeed and might bring family there for lunch again as dinner is really COSTLY!

F1 At Singapore Flyer

When Singapore held its first F1 event in Singapore last year, I remembered hubby and I came back to my office to experience the excitement. It was cool though we were looking down from our office conference room.

This year, we were lucky to be given free tickets to view the F1 at Singapore Flyer. My generous boss kindly gave me the passes to watch the F1 preview and what’s great about it, it was some how a VIP treatment where we were offered champagne whole night with a fantastic view.

Dinner was served at the VIP lounge. Though the food weren’t as delicious as we expected but the view was spectacular! We were watching the qualifying round while sipping the nice champagne….simply awesome!

We didn’t stay till the end of the qualifying round as it was getting rather late and I was getting sleepy… we walked through the party zone and it was quite an experience having the F1 driving pass under your foot… haaa… coz’ those fast and furious cars were speeding through while we were crossing the overhead bridge to the other side for the ferry shuttle…

It was one relaxing and cool boat ride from Singapore Flyer to Clarke Quay. We felt like tourist all over again and for the first time, I thought the view of Fullerton Hotel was beautiful!

Thank you Boss for this wonderful experience!

Alpha Weekend (20-21 Sept 09)

It was another Alpha Weekend but this time round, it was slightly shorter than the previous years. It was a long weekend this year and our first Alpha Weekend began on Sunday afternoon. When I arrived at church, most of my friends were already there setting up the equipments and the tables.

While waiting for our Hot MAMA (Emily) to arrive, both Germaine & I had some fun on our own before getting too serious into our singing…. Hahaahahaha… like real lor! We tested the microphones, the sound systems and checking out the guest.

We started off singing some songs of worship and the talk. Soon after, we had the in-filling session which was simply great! While we were singing and to our surprised, most guest went up to their host to get prayed over… it was such a wonderful scene. At one moment, I was actually sweating in an air-conditioned room while my hands were frozen! I knew that the Holy Spirit was with me and I felt truly blessed.

After dinner, it was entertainment night for the guest too. Each group prepared an item to perform and man… that was really funny! As usual, Uncle Richard and his group stole the limelight and it was indeed a great dance performance by them.

On Monday morning, it was our Part-II of the Alpha weekend. It was a pretty short day as we came together to serve the Lord. We began with songs of worship (as usual) and then by in-filling. While I was singing, I felt the same thing the day before… it was beautiful. I knew the Lord was with me and he has given me a voice to sing though I was suffering from slight sore throat. It was really amazing!

The Alpha weekend ended with the Agape Meal…. It was indeed one very meaningful and lovely long weekend for me… AMEN!
