Site Inspection@Carlton Hotel

This morning, I was surprised by my dear buddy Linda who came to office dressed in her pretty black dress. She hasn’t worn a dress for the longest time… about 15 years. I remembered her last wearing a dress was during those days at our old office down on Robinson Road.

I was happy that she dressed herself up for tonight’s site inspection at Carlton Hotel. However, before for heading for the party tonight, I had a mission to complete in the office… to assist changing of office chairs!!! It was a nightmare!!! Samantha & I had to wait for the contractors to fix up the chairs and then we sent those chairs to the departments for a one to one exchanged! We had to make so many rounds as there are like over a hundred staff in my office! By the time it reached my department which was the final one… I was almost a dead meat! It was all worth it as I was all ready for the dinner tonight at Wah Lok after the inspection. Hahahahahhah
After we arrived at the hotel, Bonnie, our sales manager wasted no time and started the inspection immediately. She showed us the necessary stuff we needed to know and then we quickly started dinner at Wah Lok.

The whole restaurant was renovated and yes, it’s great! She placed the orders for us and assuring us that the dishes she chose were their signatures. Indeed, we were already impressed by their starters. The deep fried squid, silver fish & the century eggs. Man… they were heavenly delicious!

Their peking duck was somehow different from the other restaurants. Usually they served with mandarin pancakes but this one, the pancakes were slightly crispy. Very interesting indeed!! Then came the double boiled shark bone soup which was ultra tasty though I was feeling a little sinful as the thought of them killing shark made me sad.

They served duck meat having it diced and stir fried with vegetables. This dish was accompanied by lettuce as a wrap. I kind of like this dish… THUMPS UP! Lastly, to my surprise, I actually enjoyed the soup noodle! It was very tasty though it looked rather simple.
As for desserts, most of the ladies ordered their almond cream with hashima while I had the avocado cream with ice-cream as I was missing the one served at Golden Peony! In my opinion, I still prefer the version by Golden Peony!!!
Wah Lok restaurant has certainly impressed me today and I guess I can recommend this place to my boss for his entertainment. THUMPS UP!

Happy 34 Months

How time flies… my little sweetheart will be turning 3 years old very very soon. It still seems like yesterday when I first held her in my arms at the delivery suite.

Seeing her grow day by day made me feels that I am getting older and soon she will be taller than me! Arrgghhh…
Happy 34 months sweetheart!

Brunch@Rokeby

This is a brand new joint located at Jalan Riang. Usually, we will visit Jalan Riang for either lunch or dinner at our favourite Italian Restaurant and we found out that there is a new restaurant opened recently.

Since we already attended mass last evening, we thought it of giving Rokeby a try. When we arrived at around 11:30am, there were quite a few patrons there and we were happy to get a table near the kid’s corner.

After browsing through their menu, we realized that they were only serving BRUNCH till 3pm on Sundays. Hubby was rather disappointed as he wanted to try out their pastas but we had to order their brunch instead.

Finally we ordered their Rokeby’s Full Monty Breakkie & Eggs Benedict to share. I would say that their coffees were pretty good. We had the lattes and both of us enjoyed it very much. When the Eggs Benedict was served, hubby commented that it was basically some breakfast that can be done from home.
We tried out both dishes and well, they were good but I would prefer the eggs benedict at Wild Honey instead. The price for their food is reasonable and what’s best is… there are no additional charges given the good services by the waiters.

We will be back again but it should be for dinner I guess.

Quality Time With Faith

Before heading to mother in law’s place, I brought Faith for a walk at Vivo City since my mum was busy and not joining us. We left our home earlier than usual so that I can do some shopping with little Faith.

As she grows, she seems to enjoy shopping and lately learnt how to choose her own clothing and toys. However, I did not buy everything that she chose of course! Today, it was just window shopping.

When we passed a cake shop at the basement, she requested to have chocolate cakes. So, we went to Awfully Chocolate for her afternoon snack. Though they did not have high chair for kids, I decided to sit on their high chair for adults.

Bought a slice of the chocolate cake and Faith was enjoying the cake by herself. While she was having that cake, she asked “mama, you don’t like chocolate cake?” and I nodded my head. She then said “orrh… okay, Tabi like” and continued to enjoy her cake.

The Alphabet ‘A’

We started to sing or teach Faith A-Z when she was about 1 years old. When she turned about 16 months, she managed to identify A-J and by the end of 18 months, she remembered the rest of the letters.

Not to get us wrong, we weren’t those ‘Kiasu’ parents who want to drill our kid when they are at such tender age but there wasn’t much interesting stuff to do with them except singing the ABC song to her as she got bored with some nursery rhymes.

Now, Faith is almost turning 34 months and she surprised me with her first attempt of writing the alphabet ‘A’. As usual, she will ask for some papers and pens for her to scribble while she is seated on her high chair. She started draw lines and circles on the paper and when it got really messy, she asked me for another piece. I told her that she shouldn’t waste papers like that though they are used ones.

Then she nodded and then cutely asked me my name as if she knows how to write it down. Then after a few minutes, she called out ‘Mama, see… I write ‘A’!’ Hubby & I was shocked but filled with joy that she was able to write the alphabet ‘A’. I guess the school she is attending is really teaching and not just only child care centre.

Well-done darling!

Farewell & Welcome Lunch

Our boss Mr Suganou will be leaving us soon and returning to Japan for his new assignment pretty soon. Since our new boss already in town, we decided to do a farewell & welcome lunch for both of them.

Leng & I arranged this luncheon at Level 33 since I have been there previously and the lunch menu is pretty reasonable. As our department have about 11 staff in total, some of us went off earlier so that the rest can take our company car.

Linda, Rie, Samantha & I left earlier so that we can chill first before the bosses arrived. We simply went mad after placing our lunch orders and started to explore the whole restaurant. We took the opportunity to take some photos before the rest of the members arrived. It was great fun though the weather outside was very hot.

Our food was served when everyone arrived. After taking some appetizers from the buffet counters, we started to enjoy the food and the conversation with each other. After our mains were served, we presented our gift to Suganou-san as his farewell gift from all the ladies. He was really happy to receive the red tie which he mentioned that it is his favourite colour.

During lunch, there were lots of communication and laughter. We do certainly hope that our new boss Fukumoto-san will be nice to us… keeping our fingers crossed.

Ran’s Birthday

We had planned to lunch with colleagues from our new subsidiary company RTM. The two young chaps sort of dated us for luncheon and we decided to get lunch from elsewhere so that they can enjoy local delights.

We booked the meeting room in our office for our little lunch party and Leng kindly went to get chicken rice from Bugis since one of them loves chicken rice. It was quite an enjoyable lunch gathering as it was good to have a ‘bonding’ session with them.

After our lunch, Michael (Mifune-san) bought some cakes as we told him that it was Ran’s birthday today. He kindly bought a couple of sliced cakes for her to choose and the rest for all of us as desserts.

We had a small celebration for her though the cake wasn’t the big one. It was still quite a fun and cool birthday celebration for her which we hope she like it.

Best Buddies Dinner Gathering

We tried to make it a point to meet monthly or once every 2 months as friends needs to bond too! This time, we met for dinner and we decided to check out the new joint at Goodman Road near Old Airport Road.

When we arrived at Café Melba, the restaurant was quiet and I would say the place is rather covered up as it used to be the old school of arts (Laselle). The décor of the restaurant is very nice and cozy where the ceiling was high and with some cool sofa seats. I kind of like the whole place.

We settled down and browsed through the menu and noticed that some of our favourite food was not in the menu. In any way, we tried out some interesting dishes like the 1 kg of vongole of clams and squid ink pasta. We also ordered dishes like Free Range Eggs Benedict omitting with smoked salmon for Hairon, Lasagne, salads, seafood pizza & ‘three little pigs’ pizza.
The food was pretty good except for the lasagne which was a TOTAL LETDOWN! It was so dry and not tasty. We feedback to the waiter and they wanted to change us another portion but we rejected as it totally destroy the whole thing. The manager was so sweet that he took the dish off our bill instead.

The rest of the dishes tasted great but when it was dessert time, we were kind of disappointed again as the choice was rather limited. Anyway, we totally enjoyed ourselves despite the horrible taste of lasagne!

Jessie’s Birthday Luncheon

Jessie celebrated her birthday on Monday with her family and she invited to lunch today to have a small celebration with us.
We went to Paradise Inn at Marina Square as time is very precious during lunch time. When we arrived, we placed our order immediately. Though the restaurant was slightly crowded due to lunch hours, our food was served at a reasonable rate.

As usual, Leng will be the one in charge of ordering of food and yes, we all enjoyed the dishes very much. Though it was a short and quick celebration during lunch time, we thoroughly enjoyed the companionship & the delicious food.

Thank you Jessie for the wonderful and enjoyable lunch! Happy Birthday once again! *muaks*

Luncheon Date With New Boss

My colleague Yoyo’s husband kindly invited us to lunch at Level 33. We were happy to accept and along with our new handsome boss, we went lunch earlier than usual time.

When we arrived, new boss was happy about the restaurant and he mentioned that the view was great! We browsed through their set lunch menus which was quite reasonable. Yatomi-san ordered the fish & chip while Yoyo & I had the pasta.

As their set lunch includes the buffet starters and desserts, we started off our lunch with their delicious salads etc. Shortly after we had our appetizers, our mains were served. The portion was quite big for lunch but my pasta tasted pretty blend. Yatomi-san’s fish & chip was delicious and the presentation was interesting.

It was more like a relaxing and enjoyable lunch with new boss and Steven (Yoyo’s husband). It was quite an interesting lunch date I would say as these opportunities do not come often.

Thank you Steven for the wonderful and enjoyable lunch!

Faith’s Photo Shoot By Boon

Ah Boon, my ex-colleague who used to work with Chemical Department contacted me via Facebook after seeing some pictures of Faith. He loves to take pictures and I would say he took some very nice pix for mummy Florence too.

Ah Boon private messaged me to get my permission to take Faith’s photos and I was happy to know that he wants to take pictures of my daughter. We planned a date and here we are today at Singapore Botanic Gardens with the companionship of Mummy Florence.

As everyone is busy, the only time we were able to meet was on a Sunday afternoon. Yes, the weather was really hot but it was all worth it as Faith was enjoying herself strolling in the park though she was feeling rather shy at first.

After a long warming up, she was more relax and started to communicate with Boon and Florence. She was posing by the help of the bubbles and small talks with Florence.

Apart from the hot weather, I actually enjoyed touring the Singapore Botanic Gardens as I finally realized how beautiful and peaceful this place is. Now I understand why this place attracts not only tourist but locals for family picnic gatherings etc. I am sure we will be back another day perhaps when the weather isn’t that HOT!

Dinner@Sangokushi

It’s been a long time since our last visit to this restaurant. Since we were around Robertson Quay, we decided to give it a shot.

When we arrived, the restaurant wasn’t crowded and we managed to get a seat outdoor as I wouldn’t want to smell like chef. We browsed through the new menu and somehow feeling lost. However, we ordered the pork liver with spring onions & ginger, their signature ramen and the gyoza.
It did not take them long to serve our food. We enjoyed the pork liver with spring onions & ginger but we were disappointed with their signature ramen. I did not remember that it tasted so blend… the soup wasn’t as tasty as I recalled it to be…

Though we did not enjoy our dinner but we took it pretty well and had a good walk around Robertson to get a good feel of the atmosphere. We would very much love to hang around longer to watch the soccer match but it will not be healthy to have Faith to sit with us in such environment… perhaps when she gets older.

Dinner Date With Hubby

We try to make time for ourselves on weekdays’ night since our weekends are reserved for our little one. Usually we will take the opportunity to check out some restaurants we have not been or at times, going back to the restaurant that we love to visit.

This time, we went to have Japanese food since hubby was somehow craving for yakitori… I checked out some places and finally we decided to go Shunjuu located at Robertson Quay.

When we arrived, surprised to find the place already filled with many locals. There were only a few tables occupied by Japanese and foreigners. We were given a seat table near to the open concept kitchen and thought it was quite interesting. We browsed through the menu and finally hubby decided to order one of the set where they included Foie Gras…

We too ordered garlic fried rice but hubby commented that it did not taste as good as the one at Sushi Tei! :) When most of our dishes were almost served, we decided to order their salmon porridge to try. It was surprisingly super Tasty! We liked the porridge over the garlic rice totally and this was our first time trying our Japanese porridge. Simply delicious!

I guess we will be back to this restaurant again but will not be ordering their set which was not really worth it... now I am already craving for their porridge!!! YUMS!

Very POST Christmas Dinner

It was a very busy for Christmas for me last year and I did not manage to meet some of my close friends till today!

Yes, I know it is rather LATE but it’s always better to meet late than NEVER right. I am glad that we were able to meet finally after such a long break. With close friends, you will have no bearer to talk about anything even though we have not met for ages.

We went to Skinny Pizza for dinner and surprisingly it wasn’t crowded on a weekday evening compared to my first time there with Theresa & Bird. We were approached to place our orders almost immediately when my butt touched the seat… that was how FREE the waitress was…

We took our time to browse through the menu and finally decided to order our dishes. We ordered The English Breakfast Pizza, the 3 side dishes – Truffle Fries, Parsley Mashed Potato & Grilled Prawns with cauliflower couscous. The Elegant Black Pepper Prawn Linguine for both Linda & Jessie while I had the Spaghetti Aglio Olio.

I totally enjoyed my spaghetti very much as it wasn’t too oily. The pizza was quite an easy to finish as it wasn’t thick but super thin and crispy. The two ladies had a hard time finishing their mains as we somehow over ordered the side dishes. By the end of the dinner, we were so stuffed that we gave up our desserts and did some walking instead.
It was an enjoyable dinner with close friends and we should really do this more often man but be more careful while ordering our food…

Sunday 3 March 2013

Luncheon At Skinny Pizza

It’s the first Sunday of the month and hubby went to church early for his duty while I was chilling out with Faith at home.

We went out earlier to shop at Plaza Singapura while waiting for hubby to finish his duty. Faith was happy to shop and especially when we enter shops like GAP, Cotton On Kids, she was excited to see those cute clothing and requested me to buy some of them. (which I did eventually)

We went to Skinny Pizza for lunch as hubby has not been there. We ordered squid ink pizza, pasta and some sides to share. Faith did not fancy some of the sides we ordered nor the pasta but to our surprise, she seemed to like the squid ink pizza. Though she could not finish the whole piece on her own but at least, she managed to eat three quarter of it.

After lunch, we walked around the new wing of PS for a while and went home to rest as hubby was feeling sleepy due to the early morning duty at church.

Shevelle’s Full Month Celebration

Time flies so fast that I was shocked that Shevelle is turning one month soon. Today, we were invited to join this wonderful occasion at Café Pralet located at Tiong Bahru area. I noticed that this is the café that Maggie has been telling us about and she loves the food there.

It was somehow quite difficult to locate as it was situated at the corner and it was not so visible if you have not been there. Eventually, we managed to find and when we arrived at the café, some of the relatives were already there having their lunch.
The food spread was simple but I must say - it was pretty tasty though. I personally liked the olive fried rice & the shepherd’s pie which weren’t oily but delicious! The rest of the dishes had pretty good feedback from the rest of the people.
The cousins were happy to see each other and they started to hang out together while the adults had their peaceful lunch. Faith was happy to play with both her big sisters Genevive & Shevaun while Nicholas sat with us at the table playing his games.

The star of the day arrived late as the proud father had to ferry the elderlies to the café in 2 separate trips. Shevelle was soundly asleep when they arrived and she was really cute. I really missed those days when Faith was little and she was like an angel sleeping on the cloud.
The celebration ended around tea time and we left for home.
