Dinner Gathering With Best Buds

My Twin Theresa organized a dinner gathering since we don’t get to meet that often anymore. We decided to try out the new joint ‘New Ubi Seafood’ located near Bishan. I too heard so much about it through media but have never been there. It’s a good chance for me to try out before bringing the family down.

When we arrived, we were surprised that there are already some early diners in the house. We thought we were early but there are earlier ones… already EATING! Theresa made reservations and this is one kopi shop zi char you have to do booking as it will get very crowded and waiting time can be more than 45 minutes without reservations.

We were given a super corner table… (Beside the drink stall) and the place is interestingly located. There are many car workshops around this cool coffee shop that served very good food. We decided to order as the guy advised us that we should order for it might take long if the crowd floods in.

As planned, each will order a dish so that we will not over order. We ordered the Hong Kong Kai Lan special, bamboo clams, took the promotion of 3 crabs for the price of 2 (chili crab, salted egg & crab been hoon), their signature dish – rib eye and rice.

Since it wasn’t that crowded yet, our dishes were served almost immediately. I would highly recommend the Hong Kong Kai Lan special as it was really different from the normal ones we had. The leaves of the kai lan were fried but the stalk were crunchy. THUMPS UP!
The bamboo clams were delicious but Bird thought it was not cleaned thoroughly as she bit on sand while chewing. As for the 3 types of crabs we ordered, all were nice but I thought the crab from crab noodles were really tasty as it was steamed instead pan fried.

I would say their signature dish Rib Eye was really nice but somehow too bloody even for medium well done. It was quite tough and slightly dry. However, it still tasted good with the onions and mustard. As for their fried rice with beef fats was pretty impressive… mmh… tasted very much like claypot rice.

As usual, we are over ambitious and did not make it to desserts…

Thank you Threz for the wonderful arrangements and let’s do it again soon ya…*winks*
