New Year’s Eve Dinner

Restaurants in town are usually fully booked up way in advance to celebrate New Year’s Eve and we decided to dine this quiet but chic restaurant down at Serangoon Gardens.

Heard about this little Italian restaurant called Buono but never had a chance to visit. We made a reservation in advance (just earlier today) and it just got me excited just by thinking about their cream sauce pizza.

When we arrived, it was really crowded & noisy inside and I was really glad that we booked the table outdoor. We were seated at the quiet corner and it was great to have our own space. Though the place was casual but the surroundings made it romantic.

We ordered our ever favorite calamari for our starter, Buono Pizza (house special) and Ravioli Crustaceus (house special) too. I was amazed by how big the portion was for the calamari though they were small but man, it was delicious!! We took our time to enjoy the calamari and the white wine.

It was not longer when our Ravioli was served. Mmmh… the portion was small but it was great. The Ravioli was stuffed with crab meat, crayfish and prawns and doused in seafood sauce. I love it though I am no tomato sauce fan.

Then, we waited for like 20 minutes at least for our last dish to be served; the Buono Pizza. When it finally arrived at our table, the outlook of it was like a patch of grass… but when we took the leaves away and tasted the pizza… there is only one thing on my lips… “Mama Mia”!!! I have finally found my type of pizza… The pizza is made using pork sausages, mushroom, and salad and mozzarella cheese on a bed of cream sauce. It was a think-crust 12 inches pizza which we felt that it would be enough for 4.

While we were waiting for our dessert, the group of people indoor brought to our attention. There was a big group (sort of class gathering) indoor and they were pretty noisy. The best part was… when they raised their wine glasses, they actually yelled out ‘HUAT AHH’ instead of CHEERS!!! I almost flipped off my chair… that was really funny and rare to hear at a chic Italian restaurant… they were like in the world of their own… super funny!

Anyway, back to food. Our dessert for the night was Lava Cake served with Vanilla ice-cream. It looked pretty normal but when we cut the cake, came flow the generous, thick chocolate sauce. Any chocolate lover would simply love it but for me… surprisingly I love it too… it wasn’t that bad at all…

Our night will not end without the countdown… We decided to get to town to feel the atmosphere but most areas were crowded and police were everywhere. Finally, we went to Kallang Indoor Stadium; welcoming 2009 with the residence of Tanjong Rhu and getting the glimpse of the fireworks. It was very romantic and sweet…though the fireworks were disappointing…

Happy New Year everyone and may 2009 be a fruitful year for all. Cheers!
