Fine Luncheon

Once again, our fantastic boss Minowa-san invited us for lunch and this time today. He mentioned that he heard about this Japanese restaurant located somewhere in Club Street and would love to give it a try. I found it on Yahoo! and made a reservation.

We went off at around 12 noon and though it was known along Ann Siang Road, but took us quite a few minutes to locate it. Finally we found this little restaurant which occupying the shop house just beside the restaurant Screening Room. This little Japanese restaurant, GOTO was really cute and very JAPANESE.

I was truly impressive by their simple and bright décor. It’s really empty when we arrived and we were greeted by this cute Japanese lady who was in Kimono. The place was small but cozy; with very limited tables, no wonder reservation is a MUST. There were lots of interesting traditional Japanese display like the tea ceremony set, bento set, Japanese umbrella and of course not forgetting the Fortune Cat. Since there were no other diners except for us, we took the opportunity to take some pictures …

It was a 6-course set lunch and no a-la-carte menu. You just got to eat whatever the chef cooks for the day. Be it you like it or not, you have to finish as the set lunch don’t come cheap, it’s SD68 per person excluding service charge.

As usual, we started off with appetizer which was small but delicious. Sashimi was served next and I tell you… that 6 pieces of raw sashimi were awesome… it was really fresh; like as if they had an aquarium in the house where they could catch the fish and sliced it on the spot… Yes, it was that fresh!

The third dish was interesting and for a moment, I thought it was tou-fu but it wasn’t. I couldn’t figure it out but the taste was unique. Tempura was fourth and though only with 4 little pieces, it was good but never enough for those who loves Tempura.

Okay, I wasn’t a Udon fan and yes, the fifth dish was Udon. I was taken aback but after the thought of SD 68 per pax, I really have to try. Without regret, it tasted awesome. I guess my favourite would be the dessert… there green tea mousse, 2 pieces of pineapple & 1 grape and tapioca ice-cream. The ice-cream was heaven I tell you!

Anyway, it felt like we reserved the whole restaurant as we were the only diners!! I must say that the food though expensive but the taste was unique and very interesting. Mmmh… if you are feeling rich, you can give it a shot for dinner at SD 180 per person.

Thank you boss for the fantastic fine dining lunch!
