Lady Faith’s First Holy Communion

Of all seven sacraments, the Holy Eucharist, or Holy Communion, is the most central and important to Catholicism. Holy Communion is offered at every Mass, and in fact, the ritual of the Mass is largely taken up with preparing the hosts (wafers made of wheat and water, or gluten-free) and wine to become the body and blood of Christ and the congregation to receive the body of Christ.

When boys and girls make their First Holy Communion (usually in second grade), it’s a big occasion for Catholic families. Like their Baptism, the day of First Communion is one filled with family, friends, and feasting after the sacred event has taken place in church.

Our Lady Faith has once again achieved this milestone and will received her First Holy Communion today. She has to report to church 2 hours before the actual event and I would say that my heart was pounding for her with excitement but at the same time feeling sad that she grown too fast!

During mass, as parents, we were all excited to check out our daughter the moment the door was opened with all kids walking towards the pews. Didn’t take me long to spot her as she was one of the first few in the front line. After she was seated, I walked over to her and gave her some boost as she was very nervous and worried that she will forget to say or do anything while receiving the communion. 

When the special moment arrived, I wanted to rush to the front to witness that MOMENT but we were not allowed to crowd round the altar. I was really hoping that the church photographers will do a good job taking pictures of their special moment. After receiving the communion, Lady Faith looked back and gave us a thump up! Hahahaahahah…

After mass, there was a photograph taking by the church and many parents rushed to the front to get their chance to take those pix on their phones and I was one of those. I was glad that I managed to get the front pew to catch a good picture.

Everyone who came for the mass were happy for her and for us. We continued our celebration for Lady Faith at Jack’s Place and we chatted the evening away. I am really thankful for our family and extended family members to join us in this special occasion that only comes once a life time and for your lovely gifts.
