Mother-In-Law Birthday Celebration

Hubby planned the birthday celebration at Beng Thin Hoon Kee this year since it has been a while we last visited. I would say this would be the first time we celebrated her birthday on a Friday evening with the whole family.

I was supposed to bake a cake for her but somehow… I wasn’t confident to bring the cake out of the house so, I dropped the idea and bought her a cake from Bread Talk instead.

When we arrived, the restaurant was quite empty with only 1 table occupied. By the time the whole family was seated, the restaurant was almost filled up. We pre-ordered our dinner menu and dishes were served shortly.

They served us the Chinese ‘birthday bun’ as our starter apart from the dinner set menu. Everyone had a piece of it and the kiddos simply enjoyed that. Our cold dish was served shortly and it was in fact, it was everyone’s favorite. It consisted of stir fried egg with shark’s fin, spring roll, salad prawns & century eggs.

We have never doubt the taste of their signature fish maw soup which replaced shark’s fin soup. It is one of our family’s favorite soups and everyone enjoyed it especially both little girls – Shevaun and Faith. Next dish was the yam ring which is one of their signature dishes too. My mum loved this dish very much as she mentioned that it wasn’t as oily as some of the restaurants we tried.
The teochew style steamed promfret was tasty too but ain’t my favorite. Faith seemed to enjoy the fish pretty much than the yam. I am really happy that she is eating fish as I am totally not a fan of it…
Next, they brought this big claypot to our table and we were all surprised that it was the clapypot duck with sea cucumber. Honestly, I didn’t know it was that BIG! However, it was so tasty and the duck meat was so soft that we managed to clear the whole pot! Father in law simply enjoyed every bit of it. I was also surprised that Faith also enjoyed the duck for that was her first time eating duck meat. The pan fried prawns were delicious too though not a popular dish among our family.

Hubby’s favorite dish of all time had to be the Hokkien Mee. It was delicious and he wanted a second serving but it was all well distributed. Hahahahaahah….. There was no second serving for him! Ooooppsss! The dessert for the night was almond beancurd.

We had a short cake cutting ceremony for Mother-in-law and the kiddos sang her the birthday song which melted her heart. We enjoyed the mango cake from Bead Talk. Honestly, it tasted pretty good though it was on promotion… it was indeed a good buy.

Happy Birthday Ma… wishing you good health and God bless you always.
