Very Expensive Lunch

I was invited to lunch with my boss Minowa-san today and he brought Linda Peh & me to Tempura TenShin. He once told us that this restaurant served the most delicious Tempura in Singapore and today, we finally set foot into that restaurant.

TenShin, located at 3rd floor Regent Hotel is still known as the only specialty tempura restaurant in Singapore. Their known tempuras reflect all the essential qualities of Japanese cuisine; the use of absolutely fresh ingredients, the beautiful artful presentation, and the perfect technique by the skilled chef.

When we reached there, my 1st impression of the restaurant was cozy, nice, very Jap (as it’s pretty small for a Japanese restaurant). There were only a few tables for a group of 4s and long counters where you are able to see what are the Japanese chefs are cooking. It was really cool and pretty interesting coz’ usually, you will see at the Sushi counter but this one, it’s a Tempura counter.

Minowa-san ordered the set lunch for us and it was like a 5 course lunch. Small portion of appetizer was served followed by salad, chawamushi, and tempura, sesame rice with cut tempura prawn, miso soup, fried prawn (side dish) and desserts.

To be honest, I am not a Tempura person but this one, I have to give good credits as it wasn’t oily at all and the taste of the prawns & veggies were great and fresh. I just simply enjoyed the chawamushi as it came with 2 small slices of shark’s fin. Yes, it’s not the normal chawamushi we ate at any Japanese Restaurants; it was really tasty though there were nothing but egg & 2 small slices of shark’s fin.

The sesame rice was something different too though it was just plain rice mixed with sesame & with some cut prawn. Surprisingly, it tasted fantastic and totally awesome.

Tenshin is one good restaurant for Tempura if you’re one of those Tempura Craze… however, delicious and good quality food doesn’t come cheap at all. It’s in fact, very very costly! Almost about $100 per pax for LUNCH!
