Last Night In Tokyo

Time flies indeed and here I come to the last day in Tokyo. I had this mixed feelings coz’ I do miss home but at the same time, I wished I could stay in Japan longer.

I went to have lunch with Natori-san who was my 1st boss. He is really fine when we met up for lunch at Daimaru. It was rather hard on him as he just returned from Kobe on a business trip. We had eel rice for lunch and it tasted really good though it was a very simple lunch. I enjoyed conversation with him and hopefully he will visit Singapore again soon.

After lunch, it was my own free time in Japan. I spent sometime in the hotel to finish up some work before heading out to do some shopping. I surfed to check out more on Shibuya and I thought it should be fine for me to get around on my own, so I went… I board the train to Shibuya and it took me like 20 minutes to get there.

When I arrived at Shibuya Station, I moved around freely and came to Fashion 109 building which is the most popular shopping mall for the young. I was really impressed by the fashion in Japan and man… there were so many shops selling different stuff in that building. Well, yes, I managed to get myself some stuff from there and was glad I did as they were on discount. Guys, if you are single, perhaps you might want to visit Shibuya the next time coz’ the girls were gorgeous man… I am not kidding. Mmmh… as for girls, there are many hunks and cute looking guys too… *winks*

For dinner, I was invited to the most expensive dinner at Yonemura which was located in Ginza. Well, Ginza is well known for its posh dinning and shopping malls and that was why I did not shop there.

Anyway, the dinner was great. It was Japanese & French fusion food which was extremely expensive. I was really impressed by not only the presentation of the food but the food itself tasted awesome. I simply loved the beef and the interesting shabu-shabu. The dinner cost about S$250 per pax and it was a course dinner with good wines. Man… simply heaven… thanks dear…

I was back to my hotel room at around 11pm and I could not sleep at all. I know I will miss Japan and I wish I could stay longer… at this time, I noticed that I had a voice message and it was from a friend and I was really surprised that we could chat that long… I enjoyed the conversation with him very much and yes, I managed to get to sleep after that though sleep wasn't that deep…

Day 3 In Tokyo

I was having some problems with my PC yesterday and haven’t been able to check my emails. Earlier this morning, I was at my hotel room trying to solve the connection problem with the help of my colleague back in SIN. It was indeed helpful and I was able to connect all over again.

Was running late and rushed to meet DGO people near to my hotel. When I arrived, I went to pay a courtesy visit to Kaki-san and we couldn’t recognize one another. After a short meeting with Kaki-san, I was led to a meeting room and did a short presentation on LNG terminal in Singapore.

I was really nervous and was really worried about the presentation. I was really lucky that Fukada-san was with me and she sort of helped me through it. I was really grateful.

After meeting, we were invited to have teppanyaki lunch nearby. Man… I simply enjoyed the lunch very much with DGO colleagues. They were great and the mixed lunch set was really great. Mmmh… after having this awesome lunch, I guess I might enjoy the teppanyaki in Singapore. It was really delicious…

Fukada-san then brought me to office to visit the Brunei & Malaysia project team. I was really amazed by how quiet the office was and compared to Singapore, it’s really different. I saw my crazy boss in the office but decided not to speak to him but just left him alone.

I wasn’t able to check my emails at the office; I decided to return to hotel to have my work done. After that, I was invited dinner by Wada-san of Malaysia Unit. We went to have Italian dinner near our office and it was really delicious. I thoroughly enjoyed the dinner and communication with Wada-san and colleagues. They were great.

Dinner ended early and I was pretty happy to have an early night after a nervous day. I will look forward to my free ½ day tomorrow. Mmmh… I have to plan where to go… cool stuff…

Day 2 In Tokyo

Was unable to sleep the night before but still managed to get up earlier to prepare for my official trip. After finishing up some work in my hotel room, I went to our office building to meet Yoshikawa-san & Miyazaki-san for lunch.

I was lucky that Tetsuya showed me the way to office yesterday and though it was quite a walk from my office, but the weather in Japan is so cooling that I really didn’t mind walking. When I arrived at the office building, there were 4 security guards and 5 receptionists at the lobby.

When Hirata-san (coordination dept) came down to escort me up to the office, I had to pass through security check point to obtain a pass to enter the office. Miyazaki-san’s office was on the 18th floor and was really surprised that it was extremely quiet. It is really different from our office in Singapore.

Yoshikawa-san invited me to Mitsubishi Club for lunch. I learnt from Miyazaki-san that the Mitsubishi Club is exclusive for Board Members only and I was really honored to have lunch there. The view at the club was really fantastic. I was able to have a great view of the Imperial Palace and indeed pretty.

Later in the afternoon, I was accompanied by Fukada-san & Sawada-san to visit Tokyo Gas’s LNG terminal. I was really excited to visit the terminal as it’s my 1st time visiting it. We met up with Shirakawa-san of TG at Kawasaki train station and took a taxi to the terminal. The cab ride was about 20 minutes from the train station.

When we arrived at the terminal, TG was really kind to do a presentation on the terminal. It was really interesting but what I enjoyed was the real visit to the berth on a boat ride. Sawada-san did a great job explaining to me while we were touring the terminal. I was really amazed by how big the tankers and the offshore berth were and best part of it, they promotes eco-friendly environment.

After the visit at the terminal, we were invited to dinner hosted by Shirakawa-san. I enjoyed communication with TG people and as well as with Fukada-chan & Sawada-san. Simply great!!! The night ended with Sawada-san sending me back to my hotel. I really enjoyed the train ride with him and man… he is really funny. Very happy to meet him…

Thank you Shirakawa-san, Fukada-san & Sawada-san for this wonderful day.

Japan, Here I Come….

I was given an opportunity to visit Japan on a business trip after working in this company for the longest time. I am really blessed with a great boss and good colleagues overseas who made this trip possible.

It’s indeed a virgin trip for everything on this trip. My 1st time to the new Changi Airport Terminal 3, taking the business class on A380 and to Tokyo! It was really amazing and I was really excited about the trip.

T3 is simply gorgeous, the design, the lightings and the decors, extremely stunning. Before I board the flight, I was able to experience the Kris Silver Club where First / Business Class passenger are allowed. It wasn’t great but then again, it was quite a nice place to rest and wait for your boarding time.

When I got onto the A380, I was really amazed by how big the plane was and the business class seats were simply unbelievable. The seats were big and it can be converted into a bed where you could really sleep on an overnight flight. Fantastic!

When I arrived in Tokyo for the 1st time, I was worried but somehow with the help of the local, I could find my way easily. Metropolitan Marunouchi Hotel is pretty new and though the room is small but it was really cozy. It was conveniently linked to Tokyo Station which is linked to almost everywhere.

Met up with my tour guide, Tetsuya for my 1st orientation day at the hotel and man… it was great seeing him again. It was a national holiday in Japan so he planned some nice places for me. He showed me the way to office and we went for lunch. I had ramen for my 1st meal in Japan and it was really good. The portion was huge but it was heavenly delicious.

We didn’t waste time and went straight to Senso-Ji Temple for sightseeing using the trains. It was nice taking the train to get the feel of it. When we arrived, it was really crowded but guessed it was holiday that’s why… we walked through the crowd and went straight to the temple. We did what the people did when we were on the ground of that temple.

We saw some people surrounding an incense bowl and they were trying to scope the smoke to themselves which later we learnt that it’s for good luck or some healing purpose… then we tried the cleansing procedure before entering the temple; get the water and washed our left, right hands and mouth. It’s tradition and supposed to be clean to enter the holy place.

We saw many people standing around and throwing 5 Yen into a metal ‘pool’. We did that too and after throwing the 5 Yen, you have to clap twice and start to wish for anything. Interesting yeah…

There were so many food and souvenirs stalls around the temple and we tried out the Ice-cream burger, man… it was nice especially on a hot day. There are many ice-cream flavors to choose from and as usual, I will pick Vanilla.

Our last stop was Shinjuku; it was huge and extremely crowded. It was like Causeway Bay in Hong Kong but more people and plenty of interesting shops. Before heading to the streets, we stopped by at Metropolitan Tower to get a free city view of Tokyo. It is government building and you can get one of the best views of Tokyo city from the 47th Floor. After a short coffee break with a breathtaking view, we decided to walk through the Shinjuku street and man… there were food stalls everywhere… cool stuff…one more thing to add… lots of HUNKS!!!

It was one cool 1st day in Japan and it’s just the beginning. I am looking forward to more exciting trips the next few days.
