Mitsubishi’s Annual Dinner & Dance 2007

Our dinner & dance is a yearly affair and at times it can be crazy, at times it can be kind of slack la… This year, we held the event at Swissotel, The Stamford and the ballroom housed about 240 guests.
The Reception-ists

The theme this year was World Carnival and everyone is supposed to wear culture outfits like Kimono for Japanese, Baju Kurung for Malays, Kebaya for Peranakans and Sari for Indians etc…. I wore a modern Indian top with just jeans where I felt most comfortable on. Some of my colleagues wore Cheong Sam, Baju Kurung and in Kimono. It was amazing that some actually dressed to the theme. To some, wearing to the theme is unnecessary and they came in causal outfits.

The night started off as usual with our General Manager, Kitagawa-san’s speech and followed by the ‘Long-Service Awards’. Soon after, we were presented our company’s very own MTV! Yes, it was aired and most of us had a great laugh though the MTV does not make much senses…
Our GM Mr Kitagawa

1st dish was served and soon after, there were games and performance. My colleagues and I were totally turned off by the performance by this ‘LIAN’… that did a very ULTRA stupid stage performance which she called it ‘Para Para’… man… she wasn’t doing any dance but some kind of silly and stupid workout. She then tried to get some men up to stage to perform with her and most of us were bored by that and hoping the performance will end ASAP!! For that moment, I thought I was attending some 7th month Auction dinner at the void-deck!

Then, it came with the 1st staff performance by our fellow colleagues and our GM. They performance ‘Cha Cha Cha’ this year AGAIN and it was relatively quite boring. It wasn’t a Woo-ha thingy and I noticed some staff actually walked out during their performance. Well… what can I say… they aren’t pros so… it aren’t ‘fire-works’ performance.
Cha Cha Cha

Surprising on the 2nd staff performance, we got the whole ballroom clapping and cheering… it was pretty entertaining when 5 male Japanese staffs performed 1st time on stage. It was really good and light to watch. They seemed very happy and all were smiling while they were dancing which was truly entertaining and fun to watch.

The performance provided by the entertainment firm was a belly dancer and in the beginning, it was acceptable but it was kind of drag when she came out the 2nd time… sighz… not too sure what was GM thinking… we were all bored by it.

After the belly dancing, we came to the final staff performance and it was by our subsidiary Metal One. They performed a song sang in Mandarin and Japanese. It was alright but the outfit was a huge mismatch! For a moment, we thought it was a bridesmaids singing for the wedding couple!

There was Karaoke Singing Competition which they called it ‘Mitsubishi Idol’. The winner was Sheena & her partner, Angela & Philip came in 2nd and 3rd went to Christine & Mr. Yong.

The best dressed contest was fun where they chose 5 ladies & 5 men. Finally, Evon who dressed like a cow girl won and Baldev in his own culture outfit won for men.

The night ended with the grand lucky draw at the struck of mid-night. Soon after the draw, everyone started to move off and left only a hand full of staff dancing the night away.

Overall, this year’s event is full of performance and hopefully next year will be lesser and no more performance by GM! Hahahaah…. Colleagues, don’t you agree…

Meritus Mandarin Client’s Appreciation Night

It’s an all Black & White Affairs at Meritus Mandarin last night. We were invited to their Client’s Appreciation Party and it was simply fantastic.

When we arrived, we were excited by the beautifully decorated ballroom. The lightings, decors, and music were great. The tables were beautifully set up in Black & White Cool stuff… our group was seated on Table 47, though not an auspicious number but it was a cool corner near to the dessert counter…

The party started well with the Master of Ceremony, Victor Khoo who is a well-know MC locally. 1st, it was the ice-breaker game where we need to come out with as many words starting and ending with the same letter. It was fun and kind of interesting for us to get about 47 words though we weren’t the winners! There were lots of games and table prizes given away but it was sad that our table did not win anything. Sighz..

The food they served were awesome… the starter, soup & main dish were just simply delicious. The desserts were not too bad neither but mostly Christmas items like log-cakes, puddings, chocolates and fruits. They served fruits like strawberries, honey drew, rock melon, water melon etc..
The Main Dish

As usual, when you have Victor Khoo, you will get to see Charlie, the puppet. It was a cool performance and Charlie indeed made everyone in the house laughed and enjoyed the night. The night ended off with the cool Lucky Draw segment and our very own Rie won the 3rd prize. She won a 2 day 1 night stay at Meritus Mandarin’s Executive Suite. That’s really cool and Pai Kia, we are looking forward to share the stay with you!! hahaahaha….

It was certainly an enjoyable night though it was Tuesday!

Lust, Caution

This movie created a big Hoo-Ha even before it was screened. The newspapers, media and all the movies review about the making of the movie, the actors & actress.

Finally, I went to watch the movie with my colleagues last night at Plaza Singapore. I have heard so much about the movie from friends and yes… about the sex scenes… call me ‘hum sap’ if you like la… but this is one movie that the ever cutie Tony Leung stripped down… needless for me to say more...

The movie started off with the story line back in Shanghai during the World War II era. The main actress Tang Wei played a Chinese college student who gets involved with a drama club after meeting Wang Lee Hom, a fellow classmate where her life began to change. She was to put her acting in real life dangerous mission which turned her into Mrs. Mak only to ensnare with Mr. Yee plays Tony Leung who is a major Japanese collaborator into an affair so that Lee Hom and his cohorts can kill him. Eventually, they did not succeed in killing but got themselves killed instead!!!

Well… the sex scenes, mmmmh… I would say nothing spectacular about it. It wasn’t those ‘turn-on’ scenes where you will ‘woohhhh’ about but somehow, the 1st scene was kinda violent. The 2nd & 3rd sex scenes were slightly better, more passionately but somehow don’t have the ‘turn-on’ factor. I found some scenes quite unnecessary rather.

The whole movie lasted about 21/2 hours and I was almost dozing off as it was slow. I couldn’t wait for it to end as soon as possible. I guess I am no ‘arty farty’ to appreciate such artistic movie.

Casual Gathering@GM’s Place

Last night, our colleague Philip organized a casual gathering at our GM’s place. We reached at about 6:30pm and some of us started to input the songs to the Karaoke system while some of us prepare the dining table for our light dinner.

We bought the best pepper crab in Singapore (which is from Still Road) and it was sponsored by my Kai-ye Steven Ng. There were $300 worth of crabs for about 20 of us which was slightly too much. Anyway, it was so delicious. Besides the crabs, we also ordered pizzas from Pizza Hut and KFC…

Nishida-san, Kontani-san & Horiguchi-san began to dance while GM was singing the song, which they planned to perform during our dinner & dance. They were trying to follow the dance steps in the MTV but it became kinda messy!

We, as usual, hanging out at the other side of the living room and Patrick started to try the Cigar, which our GM repeatedly reminded us that it was very EXPENSIVE. We all tried the cigar but I personally thought that it tasted horrible!

After some time of warming up, most of us went crazy with silly songs and were dancing in the world of our own at a corner of the bar area. It was like a little mambo jumbo and all of us just simply loved the songs that we chose and danced like we were at Zouk!!

About 10:30pm, we left GM’s place to MOS. Nishida-san, Kontani-san & Horiguchi-san also joined us at MOS. When we reached there, it was already 11pm but there were no crowd on the dance floor yet. Nishida-san was kinda excited about it and wanted to be the 1st on the dance floor.

After some time, the 3 Japanese bosses went down to the dance floor and continued to dance the night away. We were dancing at the main arena for a good 1-hour and then brought them over to the R&B side for another ½ hour. At about closed to 1am, the 3 Japanese bosses left.
Patrick & Philip
Angie & Hwei-ling

Then Philip, Hweiling & I went to dance in the Retro Room and was having fun till this stupid ‘Ang Mo’ came to me and danced with me… he was probably drunk as he went round the dance floor and danced with all the ladies… not that he was nice but he somehow forced the ladies to dance with him. When he came to dance near me, I simply danced away from him and the bouncer noticed the situation.

We left around 1:15am, as we were very tired. I guessed I have used up ¾ of my energy at GM’s place, as it was really fun.

Thank you Philip for organizing…

MTV

Today is somewhat a ‘special’ morning to our GM as he is all set to be a STAR! We are filming our office’s very own MTV. He was the Producer, Director, Planer and Actor. *headache*

Our GM was already very excited for the past few days and had even asked our department what we planned to do for our part in the MTV but somehow not all of us are keen to be on it. To be honest, many of us are camera shy, some just couldn’t be bothered about the shoot and most of us thought it’s a total waste of money.

The camera-man arrived at our office at 10am and began to shoot our ‘STAR’, that’s of course the GM who danced with our colleague Wendy Su in his office. Thereafter, it was our turn (ADM/HR/ENE) to shoot. Though it was kinda silly and not all of us are into it but somehow we managed to pull through that few minutes doing funny dance and actions. That went on to the rest of the departments.

Our GM, being the Director, went round to check on how the rest of the staff ‘performed’ for the shoot. At Chemical Department, he even directed them what to do for their part and they had no choice but to follow his instructions. It was silly but fun to watch.

At the end of it, we were called to his room to have a mass dance where some of us actually enjoyed that coz’ it was our own free-style dancing… though still very silly… hahahaah….

The whole shoot lasted for the whole morning. After editing, it will be shown during our Annual Dinner & Dance! Man… am I going to die laughing or what!!!
